June 2026 marks two important milestones in LR’s global history: 140 years in Sri Lanka and 140 years in Egypt.

In Sri Lanka, LR's first non-exclusive surveyor was appointed in Colombo in 1886, with the first exclusive surveyor following in 1945. In Egypt, the first non-exclusive surveyor was appointed in Alexandria in 1886, with the first exclusive surveyor appointed just half a decade later, in 1891.

These anniversaries offer an opportunity to reflect on LR’s long-standing presence in both countries and the generations of colleagues whose expertise and dedication have supported maritime and industrial development over the past 140 years.

LR has granted type approval to GIT Coatings’ latest propeller coating technology, XGIT-VORTEX™, launched this week at Posidonia Events.

The graphene-based propeller coating is designed to help shipowners maintain propulsion efficiency between drydock intervals, supporting improvements in fuel consumption and emissions performance.

Launched at Posidonia this week, LR Advisory's new 'Measuring ESG maturity in maritime' report provides a first-of-its-kind benchmark for ESG maturity across the shipping industry.

Built on findings from the Maritime ESG Maturity Index (MEMI), including an assessment of 48 global shipping companies, the report highlights uneven progress across the industry. While ESG frameworks are now widely in place, the industry is still working to translate ambition into consistent operational outcomes.
