As more of us are travelling again remember to include dental cement in your travel first aid kit. I used to include on my international trips for my principal, but recently needed it myself when I broke a tooth while on a road trip. You can find it at most pharmacies in the US and Wal-Mart.

As millions of people around the world prepare to celebrate various religious holidays we are all adapting. Services online, gatherings with family on Zoom, Skype and FaceTime; social distancing neighborhood scavenger hunts with signs, Easter eggs, and various items on windows, doors and balconies. I am touched by the creativity and grace of so many people who continue to reach out with a kind word, gesture, donations, and by the many volunteers who are feeding those on the front line, making masks, caring for children and supporting others in need in a million ways--big and small whether it's by sharing a song or bringing a smile to our face. Thank you.

Years ago I visited the beautiful country of Namibia on a trade mission. I still remember the warm hospitality of the people, a port with water clean enough to support seals and other marine life, a land of diamonds and delicious seafood. March 21st marks Namibia’s 30 years of independence from South Africa. Its flag was selected from over 835 submissions. The flag features two triangles an upper one in blue and a lower one in green separated by a diagonal band of white and red. The gold sun on represents life and energy.

This St. Patrick’s Day the world is dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. We’re adjusting to a new normal—cancellation of events and celebrations, closing of restaurants, bars and other places where people gather. Instead of the usual revelry, today is a quiet day in Ireland and among those who enjoy being Irish for a day.

But life goes on—you can still enjoy a pint of Guinness or an Irish coffee at home or draw four leaf clovers with kids or have a Riverdance-like competition. Find ways to celebrate this and other events at home and remember the fun-loving spirit of the Irish.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Most countries celebrate their national day, a few also commemorate their flags but Aruba goes all out. March 18th, is Aruba’s National Day and National Anthem & Flag Day. On this day in 1976 both the flag and the anthem were adopted. While Arubans hold the flag close to their heart, they adore their national anthem titled "Aruba Dushi Tera." The national anthem is a waltz composed by three of Aruba's most popular music artists, Juan Chabaya 'Padu' Lampe, Rufo Wever, & Hubert Booi.

: Holi, also known as the festival of colors, is celebrated March 9th and 10th this year. Holi has both a cultural and religious significance.
When traveling to countries where religious holidays are largely celebrated, such as Holi, or upholding business ventures with people from a given country here are some things to keep in mind:
For travel:
- There will likely be road closures and detours for events/parades so plan to arrive to events with plenty of time.
- For transporation costs expect a potential price increase since the holiday can cause an increase in tourism.
- If you would like to participate in the festivities check with your hotel, the consulate or embassy to learn what is appropriate and open to the general public.
For business:
- Do not expect to hear from those celebrating the holiday in any way. (email, phone, social media)
- To build relationships it is nice to send a short email or card wishing them well on the holiday, especially if it is a joyous occasion.

March 6, 1957 is Ghana's Independence Day making the nation 63 years old today. On this day Ghana commemorates its independence from British colonial rule. In 1957 the original, and now current, flag design was created with the three stripes of red, yellow, and green, and a single star. In 1959 the flag kept the same colors but contained three stars instead of the one. Why you ask? Well, in 1959 Ghana joined Guinea and Mali creating the Union of African States, thus the three stars. In 1963 Ghana left the union so the flag was changed yet again to a single star and a white stripe instead of a yellow stripe. The flags most recent change occurred in 1966 when the flag returned to its original form and colors.

October 1 is China's National Day. Protocol Pointer: red and gold (yellow) are considered auspicious colors, so if you're hosting Chinese visitors consider including these colors in your decorations--flowers, linens, etc. You would also want to use in your packaging for marketing purposes.

If you’re superstitious and are having 13 guests for dinner, there’s a solution. In the 1890s Mrs. Amelia Heurich, wife of Christian, the brewmaster and largest non-governmental employer and landowner in Washington, D. C. would set her table for fourteen and seat this doll, Michael.
