J.C. Patrick, Consulting CFRE. Program analysis, sales training, marketing, pledge drives, fundraising materials, generational work

Since 1992, JC has helped public radio stations of all sizes raise money. She draws from a commercial broadcast and retail advertising background, ten years at NPR working with over 800 member stations, and hands-on fundraising with both corporate and individual donors. JC works both short and long term assignments as interim staffing for absent development managers, accepting only two of these po

sitions simultaneously. She also offers a complete written analysis of a client's fundraising program, either in general development or in public radio underwriting. This includes marketing, board involvement, giving potential, rates, traffic, spot load, and more. Her client work includes customized sales training, pledge drive planning and production, creating marketing plans, moderating and planning board retreats, acclimating new hires to public broadcasting and more. Most HR and donor relations issues come down to generational triggers. JC trains staff members on the four generations in our work force, specializing in Millennials. She focuses on donors, volunteers, management conflicts, workstyles and more.

Honored to be speaking at the International AFP conference in New Orleans with Alice Ferris. We will explore both the heart and the mechanics of storytelling in fundraising, as well as the fun of getting “inside” someone else to tell the story in their voice, not our own. Covering many topics - including how we are testing AI - in our session. Looking forward to meeting new friends!

Cultural references are part of the fun in generational interactions, and are great topics for further conversation. Boomers and Xers know a lot of the Millennial references, because we lived them. But the reverse isn't necessarily true. This one is fun to read!

In the current issue of Rolling Stone, contributing editor Jon Dolan breaks down a new millennials poll from the magazine and Pivot, as well as some other polling numbers, in an effort to discern fact from fiction about the much-maligned generation.

Words matter. Even when they shouldn't.

In all the fundraising I've done, somehow, I've never written a grant. I'm helping the Fort Bend Symphony with their marketing and development work, and they asked me to write the narrative for a new music grant. Well, bless us, we got it - and it's a NEA (National Endowment of the Arts) grant, to boot!! Pretty thrilled - and thrilled with the subject matter. New music by young Texas composers - to be performed in 2017.

Whether it's gym memberships, yoga classes or healthy eating, one thing is common when marketing fitness to Boomer women - energy. It's the united complaint: "I don't have enough energy". That comes from weight gain, lack of sleep, added stress. Your marketing message should reflect how the product boosts energy. It's not necessarily about how we look - it's about how we FEEL!
