Lighting adjustable shelving can be complex, since the system must allow flexibility without disrupting the lighting. The shelving in this study was designed to be both beautiful and functional. Integrated linear lighting softly illuminates the books and objects, while concealed electrical brackets automatically turn the lights off when a shelf is lifted or repositioned.

Details like this require close coordination between the architect, carpenter, designer, and electrical team. When planned properly, the result is flexible shelving and lighting that works effortlessly behind the scenes.

We carefully planned power locations so outlets could be tucked beneath the cabinetry and integrated into the backsplash. By aligning plates with the natural veining of the stone, they remain accessible without distracting from the materials. Functional elements should support the design, not interrupt it.
