Light decides what you see.

It can draw your eye to a piece of art, reveal a material’s texture, emphasize an architectural detail, or let another element recede quietly into the background.

That’s what makes lighting such a powerful part of design.

It isn’t simply about illuminating a room. It’s about being intentional with what is highlighted, how the eye moves through a space and how the architecture is experienced.

Lighting changes more about your perception of a space than you may realize.

Color temperature, direction and intensity all influence how we experience a room. They can make a space feel warm and intimate, bright and energizing, or calm and relaxed.

That’s why lighting should be considered as part of the design, not as an afterthought or final step.

At Wynne Walker Group, we consider how each space will be used, where the eye should naturally be drawn and how lighting can complement the architecture. Making those decisions early gives us the opportunity to design with intention instead of simply adding fixtures at the end.

When those decisions are made early, lighting becomes a tool that shapes the experience of the entire home.

One company we often recommend is Prado, known for high-end, discreet technology that minimizes visual distractions in a space.

Their new drywall mud plates take that idea even further, allowing outlets to sit flush within mudded walls for a cleaner, more integrated finish.

We’re always watching what’s next and how we can use it to create thoughtful solutions that support your home’s design.

Because good design isn’t just about what you see. It’s also about what you don’t.

Whether we’re working alongside an architect, designer, builder, or homeowner, our role is to bring clarity to the lighting and technology decisions that can quickly become complex.

That means staying informed, offering objective recommendations, and helping assemble the right team and solutions for each project, without being tied to a specific product or brand.

We’re grateful for the clients and industry partners who trust Wynne Walker Group to be part of that process, and even more grateful when those relationships continue project after project.

One element we frequently see in the homes we work on is a TV above the fireplace. We typically integrate the fireplace controls into the Lutron system, which requires access to the gas valve.

To maintain that functionality without compromising the design, we can modify the back of the TV box and recess the gas valve box inside. This keeps the valve concealed while allowing the TV to sit completely flush against the wall.

Your lighting plan may look complete on paper, but was it designed around the way you’ll actually live in the space?

Furniture placement, artwork, architectural details, controls, and the different ways each room will be used should all influence the lighting plan. When those conversations happen too late, even the most beautiful fixtures can fall short.

We make sure every lighting plan works with the architecture while supporting the way you’ll experience your home every day. If you’re building or renovating, the earlier lighting becomes part of the conversation, the better.

This room was originally designed to feature a picture light, but when the artwork changed to a three-dimensional circular piece, the lighting needed to change with it.

We ran a photometric calculation and ultimately landed on two remodeler art can lights to properly illuminate the piece.

Every work of art in your home deserves lighting designed specifically for it. The lighting needed for a traditional picture is very different from what’s needed for a three-dimensional piece.

Fun fact: This home was originally built in 1974 as the headquarters for Big Three Industries. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic Unity Temple, it has since become a remarkable Houston landmark. The top floor was thoughtfully transformed into a stunning private residence and features one of the most diverse art collections we’ve had the opportunity to light.

A home with a collection like this deserves lighting that is just as intentional as the artwork. We carefully planned and positioned the fixtures to showcase each art piece, enhancing its color, texture, and detail.

Great lighting doesn’t compete with great art. It enhances it, creating a gallery-like experience that allows every piece to be seen exactly as it was intended.

What goes into planning lighting for a primary closet?

Before sheetrock, we prepare the homeruns and jumpers for the tape lighting and integrate magnetic door contacts into the design. This allows the cabinet lights to automatically turn on when a door is opened and turn off when it’s closed.

These small details help create a more functional and seamless experience every time you use your closet.
