This week, there has been very powerful learnings from Beauregard.
"It is not important what other people think of you"
"Stand up for yourself"
These have been mantras my parents consistently told me. I knew they were right, although the reality of social media, current state of affairs seemed to dictate the opposite.
This week, I was put in a position to stand up for my horse and I against a well - meaning trainer.
Let's start here.
I thought I needed help with my horse because he was not doing as I asked him to do.
First things first, it is never the horses fault.
Let me repeat that.
It is NEVER the horse's fault.
So, with that being said, i thought I was not asking correctly, so I asked the help of a "professional " trainer.
Turned out she believes the horse is at fault and became aggressive with him, striking him when she said he was being a 'jerk'.
Reminded me that when you ask 20 horse people you will get 40 opinions.
I had to stand up for him to protect him, and risk her "thinking bad of me" and " not liking me".
Think what you want of me, do not strike my horse again.
Wow.
This hit home with a double barrell kick!
I knew the next thing to do was to call the vet to assess any pain that might be causing the "no".
Called the vet, she affirmed my suspicions after a farm call to see us.
I learned (again) these valuable lessons.
Trust your gut NO MATTER WHAT.
Be confident in your decisions.
I know my horse better than anyone.
It is never the horse's fault
Only call upon the true professionals (Vet/DC) when in doubt.
We have everything we need at the exact moment it is needed.
Everything is alright already.
I love this guy with all my heart.
