Many are asking can we kill them? Well... we can but they die on their own so there's that. 🤣 The bright side... this usually means a season change is upon us. Here's some facts about these harless, yet annoying, little bugs.
Seeing lovebugs pop up in late August and September is a traditional signal that the second generation of the year has arrived and fall is approaching.The Lovebug Cycle in TexasTwice a Year: According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, lovebugs emerge in two distinct generations annually—first in the spring (late April to May) and again in late summer to early fall (September, sometimes arriving in late August).Weather Cues: The late-summer emergence is triggered when moisture and warmth align in the soil where the larvae feed on decaying vegetation. Short Lifespan: While individual adult lovebugs only live for 3 to 5 days, a regional swarm typically lasts around two to four weeks as new batches continuously hatch.So while it still feels quite hot outside in Texas, these bugs indicate that the calendar is turning toward autumn, even if actual cool weather takes a few more weeks to arrive.
