We installed a QRS PNOScan on this Boston Grand this week. With this new system, the piano can be played silently, with headphones on, and it can also be used as a midi keyboard. Here's a link to the QRS website, with all of the info on this technology: https://www.qrsmusic.com/PNOScan.php

The pianist can record his or her playing, and apply effects using a midi software or recording program.

It can also be hooked up to a sound system, and made to sound like a different instrument entirely!

It's a whole new world of musical possibilities. Let us know if you're interested in having this installed on your own piano!

Hello everyone! We want to take a moment and clarify our current policies on COVID-19, as the state of Texas has made recent changes in public health policy.

We recognize that with the constantly changing COVID-19 situation around the world, this is an uncertain time for everyone.

Above all, your health and safety are our top priorities. Even though the state of Texas has chosen to relax COVID-19 restrictions, including the mask mandate, we will continue to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. Many of our customers have not yet been able to obtain a vaccine, and some are also in high risk categories or live with those who are. For this reason, we will continue to exercise an abundance of caution in order to reduce the risk of transmission. We will be using hand sanitizer before and after each appointment, cleaning keyboards with a piano-safe disinfectant, and practicing social distancing outside of our work environment.

We have not in the past and will not in the future allow anyone who is sick to enter a customer’s home, and we will be receiving vaccinations as soon as we can.

If you prefer contactless payment, we offer online payment options in addition to payment by credit card, cash, and personal check. Simply click your emailed invoice and you will see this option.

Thank you for your business, and we will be keeping you informed. We wish you and your family the best in these difficult times.

When no part is available, we make one.

This small metal part is a damper lift rod hanger, which supports the damper lift rod. The damper lift rod moves when the steps on the damper pedal, taking the felt off of the strings and allowing notes to ring for longer.

Without this piece, one section of the could only play staccato notes.

When I sat down at this piano to tune, I noticed that the pedal was out of adjustment. It turns out this pedal lyre was broken in two! The resourceful young pianists of the house had shoved a tape measure underneath the pedal box to support it. Fortunately, we had a better solution. To strengthen the repair, both screws and glue were used. Swipe to see the pieces before the repair.

This is a grand piano **en, which connects the keys to the hammer. When you hit a key, this is the action mechanism that throws a piano hammer at the string. It has several pivot points, called fl**ge bushings, that need to have the correct "stiffness."

If the friction in the pivot points is too high or to low, it affects how quickly a key can repeat (return and be ready to play again).

Houston's high humidity usually means high friction, but in this piano it was too low!

Keydip is one of the most important elements of a well-regulated piano. If key dip is too shallow, too deep, or inconsistent across the keyboard, it is immediately apparent to a well-trained pianist, as he/she will have to push some keys further down than others in order to play.

For less experienced pianists, it simply makes the piano "harder to play." It can come across as heaviness, mushiness, or uncontrollable playing, and can sometimes irritate the hands.

Key dip should be within .005" across the keyboard.

When restringing, the wire should be cleanly wrapped around the pin, not looped over itself as it was on this . Apparently, the price was low. Be careful with restoration prices that seem too good to be true! It can be very expensive to fix.

This one will probably need to be restrung.
