Emotional Intelligence has been around for some time now.
Although you may be familiar with concept how do you boost your emotional intelligence every day?
Become more aware of your emotions.
Do you struggle with articulating your feelings? Do negative emotions like frustration or sadness seemingly affect you out of nowhere? If you aren’t paying attention to your internal emotional cues, you’re going to be constantly and unpleasantly surprised by how you come off to others and how you’re feeling, especially under pressure.
Rather than have your emotions that are happening in the background of your mind. Focus on checking in with yourself a few times a day.
Use the STOP light method:
🔴 Red Light – Refrain - Stop, calm down, breath, and think about what you want (your goal or outcome) before you act.
🟡 Yellow Light – Reflect - Say the problem and how you feel out loud – set a positive goal or outcome to move forward – think of lots of solutions – think ahead of the consequences.
🟢 Green Light – Respond -Go ahead and try to communicate your plan of action. Be aware of how your emotions might derail you.
Using the practice will help increase awareness of your emotions and will give you more control.
Since emotional intelligence is about managing our feelings, becoming more aware of them is a crucial first step.
