Reading about leadership is the easy part. Leading actual humans can feel a lot...messier! 😭 And that’s totally normal. But how to improve?

Start building more confidence and skill as a leader by.....Focusing on one specific soft skill at a time and practice it each week..Taking a few minutes to reflect after key conversations or situations..Noticing unhelpful thoughts and learning to shift them..Asking for feedback, even if it feels uncomfortable..Engaging a coach or mentor for support and accountability

Facilitate a leadership workshop for some awesome humans? Yes please! Spent the morning in New Orleans with some staff leaders from !

Had a blast designing and leading a virtual workshop for called “Elf School Challenge!” Head elf Fizzy McJingles (yours truly 😆) guided the team through some “toy-building” challenges that were really about communication and collaboration.

We worked on things like listening more carefully, speaking up clearly, networking for connection, communicating on the spot, and giving tough feedback effectively.

Which one would you pick to wear if you walked into my classroom and saw this lineup?!

This week I brought a little extra play to my “Business Communication for Musicians” class. Since it’s Halloween week, I laid out a table of hats and headbands...pirate, Mario, alien, police, cat ears, cow ears, big ears...all the ears.

Because communication isn’t just about words, it’s also about energy, presence, and a willingness to be a little vulnerable.
(Also, who doesn’t teach better in a Mario hat?)

Wanna strengthen your public speaking skills?

Start by breaking those big “I need to be better at presenting” goals into small, daily behaviors you can actually practice.

I got to explore that idea this week with a great crew of rising leaders at H2B Engineering! We practiced five public speaking “superpowers”: mindset powers (confidence), super stance (body language), magnetism (smiling and warmth), vocal powers (fewer filler words!), and time travel (preparation).
