🎩 The Hat Guy – Episode 8: Drinkwater 🎩

At the AMPP Conference, I had one of those conversations that sticks with you long after the event ends. Sitting down with Tod Eenigenburg from Drinkwater, I got a deep dive into not just what they do—but why they do it. And that’s what really set them apart.

Drinkwater isn’t just another name in the corrosion prevention and infrastructure space—they’re a company built on purpose. From high-performance coatings to long-term asset protection solutions, everything they do is centered around extending the life of critical infrastructure and doing it the right way. No shortcuts. No fluff. Just real solutions backed by real expertise.

What stood out most to me was their mindset. It’s not about pushing products—it’s about solving problems, protecting communities, and helping clients avoid costly failures down the line. That kind of intentional approach is rare, and it shows in how they operate and the reputation they’ve built.
Being right here in Conroe, TX, Drinkwater is making a big impact both locally and across the industry. And after hearing firsthand how they think, lead, and execute—it’s easy to see why.

I always say the best part of what I do is the people I meet. This was one of those moments that reminds me why I enjoy being out there having conversations and learning from the best.

If you’re in the infrastructure, coatings, or asset protection space and haven’t connected with Drinkwater yet—it’s worth the conversation.

Yesterday I was speaking with a sales candidate who had a solid résumé at first glance….clean, well-written… and clearly AI-assisted.

But here’s the problem 👇

AI can generate a résumé all day long.

What it doesn’t always generate are results.

As we dug into his experience, I realized pretty quickly what was missing:

- How much revenue he actually generated
- The size of the team he led
- How many new accounts he brought in
- The sales goals he exceeded

His resume read more like an Account Manager and not the “Hunter” he was claiming to be during our conversation.

Those are the things hiring managers care about…. Especially in sales.

And none of that showed up clearly on paper.

It didn’t come from AI.

It came from conversation.

From asking better questions.

From digging deeper.

From uncovering the real impact behind the work.

That’s the difference.

A résumé can look good.

But if it doesn’t prove results, it won’t get results.

If you’re job searching right now…don’t just list what you did.

Show what you achieved.

Let me know if you need help.

Hello all! Your friendly recruiter here Troy Dunleavy coming to you with:

ATTENTION!!!!

🎩 The Hat Guy – Episode 7 🎩

This one’s about something I value more than placements… real conversations.

At the AMPP: Association for Materials Protection and Performance Conference, I had the opportunity to connect in person with Andrew Donaldson from Energy Economics, Inc. — and the conversation we had reminded me so much of why I went into recruiting was to connect with individuals who were passionate about what they do just as much as I am!

What stood out?
👉 A company that’s been doing this since 1975 — built on experience, trust, and quality
👉 The impact they have supporting utilities nationwide — from gas meter repair and calibration to cathodic protection and infrastructure support
👉 And the level of expertise behind the scenes — AMPP-certified crews protecting pipelines, facilities, and critical assets across the country
But more than anything…

It was the reminder that this industry still runs on relationships.

🎩 The Hat Guy – First 6 Episodes & The Power of Industry Connections by Troy Dunleavy

Over the past few weeks, The Hat Guy has had the opportunity to showcase some incredible professionals and companies across the industry. What started as a simple idea has turned into something much more meaningful — real conversations, real insights, and genuine relationships.

The first six episodes have featured time spent learning more about the work being done at:

• Enduro Pipeline Services
• FlexFlow a DNOW company
• Hydro, Inc..
• TEAM, Inc.
• ReCo Energy Solutions
• STATS Group

Each conversation reinforced something I’ve always believed: relationships drive industries forward.

Taking the time to meet the people behind these organizations — hearing their stories, learning about their operations, and understanding what makes their teams successful — is invaluable. It not only helps me better serve the industries I work in, but it also reminds me how many great people are building amazing things every day.

I’m incredibly grateful and blessed to have met the individuals who shared their time and knowledge with me during these first episodes.

This journey is just getting started, and I’m excited to continue highlighting the people and companies that make this industry so strong.

If you see The Hat Guy out and about at events or job sites, don’t hesitate to stop and say hello. The next great conversation might be with you.

🎩 The Hat Guy – Episode 6: FlexFlow, A DNOW Company 🎩

At a recent conference, I had the opportunity to connect in person with
Brian Sevin — and what started as a conversation quickly turned into a meaningful discussion about reliability, engineering, and doing things the right way.

In this episode of The Hat Guy, we dive into what makes FlexFlow different in the fluid handling and engineered hose solutions space.

When I asked Brian what sets them apart, he didn’t hesitate:

"We engineer solutions.”

That statement stuck with me.

FlexFlow provides integrated fluid transfer solutions including engineered hose assemblies, composite hoses, fittings, dry disconnect couplings, breakaways, loading and unloading systems, and custom-designed transfer packages. Their focus spans oil & gas, refining, chemical, industrial, and energy markets — environments where safety and uptime are critical.

What stood out in our conversation was their disciplined approach:
🔹 Application-Driven Engineering – Every hose and component selected based on pressure, temperature, media, and operating conditions.
🔹 Custom Fabrication & Testing – Built, assembled, and verified to meet industry and regulatory standards.
🔹 Safety-Centered Solutions – Products designed to minimize leaks, spills, and operational risk.
🔹 Integrated Capabilities – Engineering, fabrication, distribution, and field support working together.
🔹 Backed by DNOW – Combining national infrastructure with specialized technical expertise.

But beyond the products, what made this connection meaningful was alignment in mindset.

From my perspective, the strongest companies in our industry don’t compete on price alone. They compete on engineering depth, accountability, and long-term partnership.

That’s what I saw in this conversation.
And that’s the heartbeat of a strong organization.

Thanks Brian Sevin for the great conversation!

NEW EPISODE brought to you by your friendly neighborhood recruiter, Troy Dunleavy

🎩 The Hat Guy – Episode 5: Hydro, Inc.

In this episode of The Hat Guy, I had the opportunity to sit down with Robert McCowan, Business Development Manager at Hydro, Inc.., to talk about what truly sets them apart in the rotating equipment and pump aftermarket industry.
When I asked Robert what makes Hydro different, he didn’t hesitate.

“We’re an engineering company that repairs pumps.”

That statement stuck with me.

In an industry where many companies focus strictly on turnarounds and part replacement, Hydro approaches every project through an engineering lens. Every pump is evaluated, measured, and analyzed. It’s not about getting a unit back in service as quickly as possible — it’s about understanding why it failed and improving it so it performs better than it did originally.

We talked about:
🔹 Root Cause Failure Analysis – Not guessing. Not swapping parts. Solving the problem permanently.
🔹 Engineering Upgrades & Hydraulic Re-rates – Improving performance beyond OEM specifications when needed.
🔹 Condition Monitoring & Predictive Maintenance – Helping clients prevent failures instead of reacting to them.
🔹 Global Footprint with Local Responsiveness – The ability to support customers worldwide without sacrificing service quality.
🔹 Culture & Career Growth – A company that develops technical talent and promotes from within.

One thing Robert emphasized was reliability. Anyone can repair a pump. Not everyone can become a long-term reliability partner.
From a recruiter’s perspective, what makes Hydro great isn’t just their technical capability — it’s the mindset. They’re not chasing the cheapest fix. They’re building trust through engineering depth, data-driven decisions, and long-term solutions.

That’s the heartbeat of a great organization.
