Holiday decorating.
Some love it, like me. Some hate it. Staging a home and Holiday decorating are not any different. Both include getting results: house sells, guests compliment you, or simply, it just makes you feel a certain way.
What I do every year at each holiday is take all of our decorations and just open the tubs. I clear my mind of "what I always do" and just do what inspires me.
We've all heard it: "We always put grandma's wreath on the front door" or "I don't display it because it's old and I don't want to break it."
Here are my thoughts just on these two thought processes.
1) If you put something in the same place every year people stop looking at it. If you display it someplace else, like over the fireplace, I guarantee your guests or even your family will ask when you got that. Is it new?
2) Mixing vintage and modern brings both worlds together. It also allows you to be more creative year to year as you display your treasures.
3) Less is not always more. Figure out what type of Holiday person you are. Does it make you happy to see your favorite treasure on the table alone because it gives you an emotional response? Do you want to be surrounded by "all of your favorite thing?" There are no rules.
