DAY 7: CLUTTER IS THE CLUE™
When the Clutter Becomes Evidence
A client once held up a simple coffee mug and started crying.
Not because of the mug.
Because of what it meant.
She said:
"Every time I look around my house, all I see is proof that I can't get it together."
That stopped me in my tracks.
Because she wasn't looking at clutter anymore.
She was looking at evidence.
Evidence she was failing.
Evidence she was behind.
Evidence she wasn't the person she thought she should be.
The pile on the counter wasn't a pile.
It was a reminder.
The laundry wasn't laundry.
It was guilt.
The unfinished project wasn't a project.
It was shame.
And here's what I wish she knew sooner:
Your home is not a report card.
The dishes are not grading you.
The paperwork is not judging you.
The closet doesn't know how many times you've tried.
The pile on the table doesn't know how exhausted you've been.
But somewhere along the way, many of us start treating our homes like a scoreboard.
Every unfinished task becomes another point against us.
Until we walk through our own front door and feel like we're losing.
I've seen this in busy moms.
I've seen it in caregivers.
I've seen it in people struggling with health issues.
I've seen it in people grieving.
I've seen it in people who have spent years taking care of everyone except themselves.
And the saddest part?
Most of them don't need better organizing systems.
They need someone to help them stop using their home as evidence against themselves.
So if you've been looking around your house and hearing a voice that says:
"You should be further along by now."
Maybe that's the clue.
Maybe the clutter isn't telling you that you've failed.
Maybe it's telling you you've been carrying too much for too long.
And maybe it's time to stop measuring your worth by the state of your kitchen counter.
💜 Tell me honestly:
Have you ever looked at a messy room and felt like it said something about YOU?
You're not alone.
