Every ordinary thing about today, the weekend, the freedom to spend it however you choose, the people you're spending it with, someone paid for it.
Men and women who left home, not knowing it would be the last time. Who raised their right hand, knowing full well what they were signing up for. To stand between harm and the people they loved, and millions of complete strangers they would never meet. Who never got to see what became of the country they gave everything to protect. Who never got to grow old, start a business, raise a family, or simply sit still on a quiet morning.
We get to experience all of that because they paid the ultimate price.
Memorial Day belongs to each and every one of these brave soldiers and to the families who have carried their absence every day since.
We're grateful. More than we know how to say.
