We once walked away from a $300 million company.

On paper, they were doing well. Then we got a few layers into our consultation process and found the real problem.

Every decision still ran through the CEO. Every purchase. Every signature. Every hire. His leadership team was full of experienced, talented people who had all been quietly trained to wait for his sign-off before they moved.

He had become the bottleneck.

The business was ready for the next level. The people had never been given the room to reach it first.

That is the idea at the center of an article our Founder & CEO, Sonya Bailor, published through the Forbes Coaches Council.

"You cannot scale a company without scaling the people. Why? Because people scale companies. Every new level you want the business to reach, the people must reach first."

Sit with the middle sentence for a second. People scale companies.

Systems support them. Process supports them. Technology and capital support them. The scaling itself is done by people, every time.

Which is why a $300 million company can sit stuck behind one person, and why we did not take that engagement. When the person at the top is unwilling to grow, no framework, system, or process improvement can break through a leader who refuses to let go.

We build systems, strategy, process, infrastructure, and cash flow discipline alongside our clients every single day, and we defend the value of all of it. We also scale the humans while we scale the company, because the ceiling of any business sits exactly where the growth of its people stops.

Last week, Forbes editors selected that article as one of only three Editors' Choice honorees for August, out of everything the entire council published. In Sonya's first year as a member of the council.

Life is amazing when reminding us what really matters. If you’ve been wondering where I’ve disappeared to for a little while... I have a very good reason… I became a grandmother!

Our beautiful granddaughter made her entrance into the world two weeks early, and like so many of life’s biggest moments, she reminded me that some seasons deserve your full attention.

One of the things I’m most grateful for is the incredible team at BAILOR. They stepped up while I stepped back for a little bit, and that’s exactly why we believe so deeply in developing people. The goal has never been to build a business that depends on one person. It’s to build leaders who are capable, trusted, and ready when life happens.

Because life will happen.

And sometimes the greatest sign of leadership isn’t being the one who always shows up...
It’s building a team that can.

I’m thankful for every moment I’ve had with my family over these last few weeks, and yes... I’m also very thankful for under-eye cream. 😊
I’m back, excited for what’s ahead, and looking forward to spending Thursdays with you again.

So here’s my thought for you this week...
Build something that allows you to be fully present for the moments that matter most.
Because success should create more freedom to live your life... not less.

Today, we’re celebrating Amanda Hibdon, our Growth Associate and a true force behind the impact and growth of Bailor.

Amanda is one of the hardest-working people we know, but what makes her impact so meaningful is the heart she brings to that hard work. She is thoughtful, kind, dependable, and genuinely invested in the people around her.

She has a natural ability to create connections, strengthen relationships, and make people feel valued. Through those connections, Amanda continues to expand BAILOR's presence and impact throughout our community and beyond.

She helps fuel our growth, deepen our relationships, and move our mission forward, and we are incredibly grateful to have her on .

Last Friday, Team Bailor stood on the dock at Ditto Landing as Freedom Fighter began its mission.

We handed out American flags. We stood alongside Veteran's Against Su***de, the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber, sponsors, partners, veterans, families, and supporters who came ready to send this crew off with the energy and purpose the mission deserves.

It was an honor to stand beside them that day.

It is an honor to still stand beside them now.

As the Mission Accelerator Partner, our role did not end when the boat left the dock. We are continuing to work behind the scenes, alongside the crew and their partners, helping remove roadblocks, coordinate support, solve problems, and keep the mission moving forward.

This mission is built to raise national awareness around veteran su***de, remind every veteran that you matter, your life has purpose, and your mission is not over.
