So many business owners rush to form an S Corp because they’ve heard it’s a great way to save on taxes and it can be.

But the biggest mistake I see is not understanding the responsibilities that come with it.

Once you become an S Corp, you’re required to:

1. Pay yourself a reasonable salary through payroll

2. File payroll taxes regularly even if you’re the only employee

3. Keep your books and tax filings accurate and up to date

Skipping any of these steps can lead to penalties, missed deductions, or even loss of S Corp status.

Many make the switch before they have steady cash flow. Then, they struggle to run payroll, and their personal finances take a hit.

Don’t switch to an S Corp until you have consistent, reliable cash flow to cover the additional costs.
