INVESTMENT | The Stewardship of What Matters

Everything we build requires Investment.

Our relationships. Our families. Our communities. Our careers. Our dreams. Even our peace.

And while we often associate investment with financial resources, some of the most consequential investments we will ever make involve things money cannot buy nor replace.

Our time. Our energy. Our attention. Our wisdom. Our love.
These are among the most valuable resources entrusted to us. And how we invest them matters.

For much of my life, I understood investment through the lens of responsibility, service, and sacrifice. I invested in people, institutions, causes, and commitments because I believed in their potential and in the importance of the work before me.

I still believe deeply in service. But experience has taught me that not every investment produces growth. Not every commitment remains aligned with its original purpose. And not everything we have invested in is ours to sustain indefinitely.

Investment requires more than generosity. It also requires discernment. We must learn to distinguish between planting seeds and pouring ourselves into ground that cannot sustain what we are trying to grow.

We must recognize when an investment requires patience, when it requires adjustment, and when wisdom calls us to redirect our resources. And perhaps most importantly, we must remember that investing in ourselves is not selfish.

Rest is an investment.
Education is an investment.
Health is an investment.
Meaningful relationships are investments.
Spiritual growth is an investment.
Peace is an investment.

The returns may not always be immediate, visible, or measurable. But their influence can extend across generations.

Sovereignty requires us to become intentional stewards of what we have been given. It means understanding that our capacity is valuable, our resources are finite, and our purpose deserves thoughtful cultivation.

It also means releasing the belief that because we have invested so much in something, we are obligated to continue investing at the expense of our well-being. Past investment does not automatically justify future sacrifice.

Today, I am increasingly mindful of where I place my energy, whom I allow access to my time, and what I choose to cultivate.

I want my investments to reflect my values, honor my purpose, and contribute to a legacy worth leaving. Because ultimately, the question is not simply how much we have given. The question is whether what we are giving is cultivating the life, relationships, and legacy we are called to build.

Invest wisely. Cultivate intentionally. Steward faithfully.

INTENTION

A sovereign life is not lived accidentally.

Intention is about deciding what deserves your energy, your attention, your access, your time, and your emotional investment.

It is the difference between merely responding to life and directing your life with purpose.

Not everything that asks for your attention deserves it.
Not everyone who wants access should have it.
Not every opportunity is aligned simply because it is available.
And not every burden is yours to carry.

You can be loving without being endlessly available.
You can be ambitious without chasing everything.
You can be generous without abandoning yourself.
You can care deeply without surrendering your peace.

There comes a point when sovereignty requires more than knowing who you are. It requires becoming deliberate about how you live.

What will you build?
What will you nurture?
What will you release?
What deserves more of you—and what has already received enough?

Intention means understanding that your energy is a resource. Your time is a resource. Your presence is a resource. And where you consistently place them will eventually shape the life you are living.

So choose carefully.
Choose what aligns.
Choose what gives life.
Choose what honors who you have become and where you are going.

Because when you stop allowing everything around you to determine your direction, you begin living by design rather than default.

Not everything that demands your attention deserves your intention.

That, too, is sovereignty.

I Have Carried Enough

For a long time, I carried.

I carried organizations.
I carried family responsibilities.
I carried my sick and ailing parents and my grandmother (all the way up to the Gates of Glory).
I carried my children in my womb—and carried the grief of losing one.
I carried other people’s responsibilities.
I carried crises after crises.
I carried expectations.
I carried problems that were never mine to solve.
I carried the weight when other people couldn’t—or wouldn’t.

And because I was strong enough to carry it, people became accustomed to watching me do it.

But strength can become a burden when everyone assumes the strong person never gets tired.

I got tired. Not weak. Not bitter. Not defeated. Tired & Done.

There comes a point when you realize that being capable of carrying something does not mean you are called to carry it forever.

Some things were mine for a season.
Some things were mine because I love deeply.
Some things were responsibilities I willingly accepted.
And some things I picked up simply because I knew if I didn’t, no one else would.

But this season is different. I am putting some things down. Lovingly, responsibly.

I am releasing responsibilities that belong to other people.
I am allowing organizations to stand without me holding them upright.
I am allowing grown people to carry what belongs to them.
I am allowing problems to exist without automatically making them mine to solve.

And perhaps most importantly, I am learning that my life was never supposed to be defined solely by how much I could endure.

I have carried enough.

Now, I want to experience.

To breathe.
To love.
To travel.
To laugh.
To create.
To consult.
To build what brings me joy.
To sit in peace without feeling guilty because I am not rescuing something or someone.

For so much of my life, strength meant carrying.

In this chapter, strength also means knowing what to put down.

Life is short. The days are not promised.

And I intend to live mine out, in experiences.

Presence x Andrea K.

Sometimes Presence is finally allowing yourself to enjoy where you are in life.

Enjoy the moment.
Enjoy the people.
Enjoy the opportunities that come your way.

My late grandmother, Mrs. Annie M. McCray (1922–2010), used to say: “Opportunity is like a bald-headed man; you have to catch him while he is coming towards you.”

In other words, opportunity doesn't always circle back. Sometimes you have to recognize it, reach for it, and move when it appears.

Or, as my Bestie since before we popped out of our mothers' wombs, Katryna Smith-Gaskin, puts it: “You have to be active in your own rescue.”

And maybe that's another dimension of presence.

Presence isn't simply sitting still and appreciating where you are. Presence is participation.

It is recognizing that after years of surviving, healing, preparing, waiting, caring for everyone else, or wondering when your season would finally come—you have a responsibility to show up when it does.

Some doors require you to walk through them.
Some opportunities require you to say yes.
Some moments require you to stop analyzing and simply live them.

You can honor where you've been without living there. You can prepare for where you're going without missing where you are.

Be here. Be awake. Participate.

Because sometimes the life you've been praying for doesn't arrive with an announcement.

Sometimes it simply presents an opportunity—and waits to see whether you're present enough to recognize it.

INTEGRITY — LIVE WHAT YOU KNOW

There comes a point in your journey when you stop asking who you are becoming and recognize who you have become.

You have survived enough to know yourself.
Lost enough to know what matters.
Learned enough to recognize what does not belong.
And grown enough to stop negotiating with truths you already know.

That is Integrity.

Integrity is when your words, values, and actions agree—even when that alignment costs you something.

Sometimes it will cost you opportunities, relationships, access, or acceptance. Let it cost you.

There are things far more expensive than losing an opportunity. Losing yourself is one of them.

Integrity is also about keeping the promises you make to yourself.

When you establish a boundary, honor it.
When experience teaches you something, remember it.
When discernment reveals something, do not pretend you did not see it.

You have worked too hard to become who you are to abandon yourself for temporary comfort or approval.

Know who you are. Know what you stand for. Live accordingly.

That is Integrity.
That is Sovereignty.
