Join the party at the Iowa City Bike Library !

About a year ago, I joined the Iowa City Bike Library as treasurer despite the fact that I don’t own a bike! It’s been a joy to be part of this vibrant organization supporting the work they do in the community.

Over the past two years, the Bike Library has been in the quiet phase of a capital campaign called Bikes Create Community with a goal to raise $1,000,000 for the following initiatives:

-Investing in youth and teen programming to equip the next generation with skills and confidence
-Redesigning our outdoor space into an educational greenspace and third place for connection
-Elevating our shop to better serve patrons with dignity, efficiency, and care
-Becoming a resiliency hub—a place for support, repair, and refuge during times of need
-Creating financial security by paying off the mortgage

During the quiet phase of the campaign, we have worked with an incredible team to expand the Bike Library’s network of passionate donors and sponsors and have raised a total of $740,000 in pledges. We are very grateful for this response!

The next step is to take the Bikes Create Community Capital Campaign public with a launch party on September 4th @ 4:30 at the Bike Library. This public phase means our efforts switch from behind-the-scenes, high-dollar and corporate asks to an ask to the entire community. It is an opportunity for us to introduce our friends who are not familiar with our space and talk about the programming.

I invite you to join me and take a tour so you can see what makes this place so great! Please RSVP for the event: https://www.mixily.com/event/3646979627138488641

The energy is always high and the vibes are always good at a Bike Library party!

I love connecting with people and sharing my knowledge which is why I jumped at the chance to be part of the Business Resource Center at Merge. Greater Iowa City, Inc. created this free resource to support local business owners. Think of it as “office hours” where people with different areas of expertise are available to answer your questions. Watch this video to learn more:

It was an honor to receive a Better Together 2030 Bravo Award for creating an Inclusive Economic Ecosystem. I created my consulting business to share the wisdom I’ve gained over the course of my corporate career with small business owners by bringing a heart-based approach to money. As I reflected on the special night, I realized the award wasn’t because of a specific thing I did, but rather, recognition for bringing all of who I am to the work I do. It’s wonderful to know I’m making a difference in the community. 💖

Why do I call myself a Money Magician? Can I wave a magic wand, say “Abracadabra!” and have money magically appear? I wish! But it’s not that simple.

What is magic? We tend to think of it as a supernatural force that makes things appear out of thin air. However, no one sees the amount of time and energy the magician puts in behind the scenes to make the magic happen.

Aleister Crowley, a 19th century novelist, political theorist and ceremonial magician, defined magic as “the science and art of causing change to occur in conformity to will.” I love this definition because it describes how I support my clients. Providing financial structure and coaching tailored to your needs, I can help you achieve your goals. However, I can’t do it alone. You have to be an active participant in order for magic to occur. Taking action to understand the financials of your business will provide insights that were previously missing, it's as if information appears out of thin air. MAGIC!

“The Devil’s in the details!” 👿

That’s my response when early stage business owners ask for advice on starting a business. They have so much passion for their idea and devote so much time to bringing it to life they forget about the administrative details of running the business.

Here are a few tips to do early in your business to prevent headaches at tax time:

🏦 Set up a business bank account. Trying to separate your business income & expenses from your personal bank account will be time consuming and not fun!

🧾 Track spending and SAVE receipts. Old fashioned paper receipts still work but technology makes it easier.Using an app such as Expensify allows you to take a picture of the receipt to save it and upload it to accounting software (if you’re using one).

💲 Create invoices to document customer sales. Even if you’re not using accounting software, you can create invoices in Word or Excel to bill customers. This avoids misunderstandings with customers on what is due when and allows you to capture valuable sales data.

💰 Consult a tax accountant. The business structure chosen at time of formation impacts how you will be taxed. A good tax accountant can advise on the documentation needed for income taxes, estimate quarterly tax payments and explain sales tax rules.

Follow these suggestions and you’ll thank me come tax time!

Hello Facebook community! 👋

I’m excited to share a little more about myself and the passion that drives my work as a strategic financial partner and money coach.

Most of my career has been spent in corporate finance and accounting roles. While the focus of the roles was to support business growth, I used them as an opportunity to help people grow individually as well. Providing education, making process improvements and creating financial tools that are easy to use allowed people to succeed which delivered bottom line results for the business.

Over the years (and the analytics), I’ve learned that financial health isn’t just about numbers—it’s about feeling empowered, confident, and aligned with your values.

🌱I started my own company with a deep desire to help people and businesses thrive, not by focusing solely on profit, but by creating a more meaningful relationship with money. I love what I do because I get to see my clients grow—financially and personally—as they learn to take control of their finances, make empowered decisions, and rewrite their money story.

💖Whether I’m working one-on-one with business owners to craft strategic plans, or helping someone heal their relationship with money, my approach is always heart-centered. I’m here to support your dream, use my decades of expertise to guide you, and collaborate to create something truly magical.

Here’s to financial empowerment and building a future you feel excited about!
