Remember this fire ant hill, where a guy put a bunch of poison out about two weeks ago? We did kill that one. The problem is he didn't treat everything, and there's another one right next to it, brand new and totally alive. You can't spot treat fire ants with some poison on the surface and think you did your job. Fire ants are everywhere in lawns around Irmo and Lake Murray, so you have to treat them everywhere.

To tell fire ants from nuisance ants, poke the mound with a stick. Fire ants swarm and run right up it. They're from Argentina, people are allergic to them, and if someone gets bit on your property they just might try to sue you, so hire SpringGreen to kill them instead.

This spurge was growing out of a stump with a fire ant mound in it, and the ants got me before I got the w**d. SpringGreen treats fire ants too. The purslane I pulled next is technically edible and probably weighed five pounds.

Live around Lake Murray and planning to deal with an embarrassing lawn come spring? Save yourself the frustration. Spring is when you see the problem, and by then it's too late to prevent w**ds. Pre-emergent has to be down by about November 1st, or you're choosing w**ds until late May.

Most people around Lake Murray wait until spring to fix the lawn, and by then you're just looking at the w**ds. The work that decides how your yard looks in spring happens right now, in October. If pre-emergent isn't down by about November 1st, you're stuck with w**ds until late May, and spraying them at that point means chasing them instead of preventing them.

Came back out to check on the dallisgrass and this stuff is cooked, every piece of it purple. Two apps 14 days apart looks like it takes it down, and the new material is safe for centipede, which is the biggest thing. Call or text (803) 407-7000 to see if we can do it for you.

I just finished treating this yard, and as you can see, the side we treat is thick, green and lush while the neighbor's side is full of w**ds. This is why it's so important to put out pre-emergents, the right amount at the right timing.
