Honda and Nissan tried to merge, couldn't agree on who was in charge, blew the whole thing up in February 2025. Now they're back at the table anyway, with Honda's CEO saying the partnership is "quite far along, with some aspects close to an announcement," focused on sharing a common ECU across future hybrids and EVs. The uncomfortable twist: when the merger collapsed, everyone assumed Nissan was the desperate one but Honda has since cancelled its entire EV program, meaning the company that walked away from the deal thinking it was too good for Nissan is now showing up to a more limited partnership having had a pretty rough few months itself.
