A new Satellite taking shape.
This is the Array 576G, a 576 square foot, two bedroom home designed to sit above a 24’ x 24’ garage. The project is being developed as part of a larger study looking at how garage ADUs can create new infill housing opportunities within existing neighborhoods in Montpelier.
What I particularly like about this project is that the design isn’t starting from scratch. The dwelling is being assembled from the same architectural system, components, cabinetry, mechanical strategies and fabrication methods already developed through Satellite. Even the new double galley kitchen evolved by recombining existing Satellite cabinetry rather than designing an entirely new kitchen.
The garage creates another opportunity. For new construction, it can become part of the Satellite system itself. For existing garages, the same 576 square foot dwelling gives us a consistent housing prototype against which individual sites and structures can be evaluated.
This is also a good example of what Satellite Design Services is for. Before committing to a building project, I can work with a homeowner, developer, municipality or housing organization to take an idea through design, feasibility, site and installation strategy, preliminary costing and Mission Planning, and determine what the Satellite version of that idea can be.
More to come as this one develops.
