Last Sunday, our pastor talked about the “keys to the Kingdom”, how God gives us the keys to walk into what He has for us. I’ve been thinking about that a lot this week.
Being a small business owner can be such a weird mix of exciting and discouraging. You put so much of yourself into what you create. You dream up ideas, spend hours bringing them to life, and slowly start to realize that maybe this little thing you started could actually become something bigger.
Meanwhile, my brain is running on about 237 tabs at all times. I’m trying to be a good teacher, a good wife, and a good business owner. Sometimes it feels like I’m giving every single thing I have to all of it. I’ll spend an extra 30 minutes on something because surely that one little detail needs to be perfect. I’ll second guess myself, compare myself, and wonder if I’m doing enough.
I’m learning that maybe I don’t have to have every single thing figured out before I can walk through the door God opened for me. God didn’t give me someone else’s keys. He gave me mine. He gave me creativity. He gave me ideas. He gave me the ability to take a blank canvas and turn it into something that makes someone smile. Maybe it’s a gift He gave me for a reason. I’m learning to be faithful with what’s in front of me instead of constantly worrying about what’s next. I’m going to keep creating, learning, growing, dreaming bigger. Keep giving myself a little grace when something isn’t perfect. Maybe the goal isn’t to be perfect, but to simply to use the keys I’ve been given.
And baby, if God gave me the keys… I’m going to use them. I encourage you to use yours, too.
