Sorting through some photos and rediscovered this fun one from our Lupine knoll. When Lupine seed pods dry, they contract until the pod explodes from the tension. This seed landed squarely in one of the leaves of the Lupine plant. I'm sure it got knocked down to the soil eventually. Due to their explosive nature we store the collected pods in a big mesh bag that sits in the sun like a big bag of popcorn!

Opportunity to learn more about fire in our landscapes from three lovely people who are passionate about the use of fire. 🔥

Michele Richards, Ryan Koziatek, and Dave Brown of the
Michigan Prescribed Fire Council join hosts Joe Byars and David Benac for a conversation about the role of fire in Michigan's ecosystems and how their group uses it as a tool. This is the first of a fascinating pair of episodes about how fire 🔥 is an important natural and cultural feature of many of Southwest Michigan's landscapes. 💚

Hope everyone is staying warm and cozy! While this snow isn't great for snowman, some species have seeds that work almost as well. The Agrimonia seeds have little hooks that help them stick to animals and disperse. This makes them a bit harder to mix with other seeds in a seed mix but if you squish a bunch together though, you can make a snowman!
