A lot of homes in Southwest Michigan have attic ventilation problems without the homeowner even knowing it. One of the biggest issues we see is insulation blocking airflow at the soffits/eaves — which prevents the attic from “breathing” properly.

When airflow is blocked:
❌ Heat gets trapped in the attic
❌ Moisture can build up over time
❌ Shingles can wear out faster
❌ Ice dams become more likely in winter
❌ Insulation performance drops
❌ Energy bills can increase

A properly ventilated attic should allow fresh air to enter through the soffits and flow continuously up and out through ridge vents or roof vents. This helps regulate attic temperatures year-round and protects the roof system.

That’s why proper baffle installation is so important when adding attic insulation. More insulation alone isn’t always the answer if airflow is restricted.
