Next time someone asks you "what should I do?", ask back: "What would you do?"

If the answer's reasonable, let them run with it, even if it's not exactly how you'd do it. A few small mistakes are the price of a team that can finally decide without you.

Added a few AI tools lately and somehow feel busier than before? You're not imagining it.

Here's the pattern. Every AI tool spits out drafts, answers and options, and each one still needs someone to review it or decide what happens next. If that someone is always you, you've just hired a handful of interns who all report to one desk. The line outside your door only gets longer.

The way out is to build one team, people and AI together. The AI drafts and sorts. A trained person decides inside the limits you set. You stay in the calls that actually need an owner.

For a long time I was the bottleneck in my business. Every decision ran through me. I'd watch work pile up waiting on a yes or a no, and stepping away for a day meant things stalled.

What changed was simple. The people closest to the work started making the calls, inside limits I'd set. AI drafts and sorts in the background. I only see what truly needs an owner.

It turns out the real win came from no longer being the only one allowed to decide.

I hear versions of this all the time now. Here's what's actually happening.

AI is one of the best tools we've ever been handed. It can lift what one person gets done to something remarkable. But it can only carry the easy weight. The judgment, the decisions, and the toll of both stay with you. When your output climbs ten times over, so does that weight.

You're not doing it wrong. You just need limits and rules built in, on purpose. Use AI deliberately, protect your hard stops, and it gives you back time and energy instead of draining them.

Capacity is only a gift if it leaves you with more life to actually live.

"I should be able to handle more now that I have AI." A lot of owners are telling themselves that, then wondering why they're fried by Thursday.

Here's the truth. AI handed you more of the hard work. The easy stuff got faster while the judgment and the decisions piled up. Of course you're tired.

This is really common, and it's fixable. The system for handling all that new capacity just isn't in place yet. Build in limits the same way you'd build a cash system: one hard stop, one clear why, clear rules on the tools.

More capacity is supposed to make life easier. For a lot of owners right now, it's doing the opposite, and most can't put their finger on why.

Here's the short version. AI clears the easy 80 to 90 percent of a task fast. What's left is the judgment and the final call, the heaviest part of the work, and now you're doing ten times as much of it. Your output climbs. So does the weight you carry. That's the burnout nobody warned you about.

The fix is the same one that runs through everything I teach. Systems beat scrambling. Build AI with real limits and real rules, and it gives you time and energy back instead of quietly taking them.

Tip for the week: pick one hard stop in your week, an evening, a morning, a walk, that stays off limits no matter how much more AI could help you produce.

A couple of years ago, my work days had hard edges. Only so many hours, only so much cash. That forced me to choose what got done.

AI erased a lot of those limits. I'm more productive than I've ever been. And I've ended more days feeling wrung out than I used to.

Here's what I figured out. AI clears the easy part of the work. The judgment, the decisions, the final call, all of that still lands on me, and now there's far more of it to carry.
