SUSPICIOUS DEATH OR TRAGIC ACCIDENT?
24-year-old Devyn Lee Long was found dead in rural Anderson County, Kansas, just days before Christmas in 2016 and nearly a decade later, his mother says she still has more questions than answers.
According to family members, Devyn disappeared from the Garnett/Welda area before Christmas of 2016. On December 20, 2016, he was found deceased under a brush pile in a wooded farm field after search crews spent days looking for him. His mother, Diana Dunn, says she was part of the search team the day Devyn was found alongside members of the KBI, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, firefighters, and volunteers.
Diana believes Devyn’s death was never properly investigated. She alleges her son showed signs of physical trauma and says several items found with him, including a laptop and cellphone, were badly damaged and covered in blood. She also claims the back of his cellphone was discovered separately inside a residence where Devyn had reportedly been staying.
One of the most unsettling details involves a social media post allegedly made before Devyn’s body was discovered. According to screenshots shared by the family, someone wrote that Devyn would be found “in the woods” between where his vehicle was located and his home... the same general area where search crews later found him.
Diana says she has repeatedly attempted to get the case reopened through both the KBI and Anderson County authorities, but claims she was ultimately told the case would not be reopened. Nearly 10 years later, she continues pushing for answers and believes people in the community know more than they have said publicly.
Official online records confirm Devyn Lee Long, of Welda, Kansas, died on December 20, 2016, at the age of 24.
⚠️ At this time, no one has been charged in connection with Devyn’s death, and Kansas True Crime cannot independently verify all claims made by family members. This post is being shared to help bring renewed public attention to the case and encourage anyone with information to come forward.
