Answering the question, “What are your salary expectations?” is often one of the most stressful and difficult to answer. Here are a few tips to make this question easier:

1. Do your research beforehand, using multiple sources, so you are prepared
2. Ask the company the salary range they are willing to offer, which will provide you with realistic expectations
3. Never discuss your current or previous salary, as some companies will use this information to either underpay or reject you from the role
4. Offer a salary range, as opposed to a fixed number, but make sure the lower end is acceptable for you

Red flags don’t just show up in dating. They show up in job postings too! 🚩 A few to watch for on the hunt:

- A “recruiter” contacts you out of nowhere and wants you to click a link. Don’t. Verify through the company’s official site first.

- Unprofessional communication. Poor grammar, inconsistent info, an overly casual tone. Could be a scam.

- Signs of toxic culture in the posting. Vague descriptions or buzzwords like “fast-paced” with no context.

- Vague responsibilities. Too little detail? Disorganized. Too much crammed in? Probably several jobs in one.

Trust your gut, and do your homework.

Ever feel like your resume gets sucked into a black hole after you hit “apply”? Here’s a tip!

You’ve probably seen the term “ATS-friendly resume” buzzing around lately. “ATS” stands for Applicant Tracking System. It’s recruiting software employers use to narrow down huge applicant pools during hiring. It helps them find the best-fit candidates before a person even looks at your resume.
It scans for: relevant keywords, simple formatting, clear headings, and ATS-friendly fonts

So next time you’re building your resume, keep these in mind. It could be the difference between landing in the system and landing in the hands of a recruiter!
