Boarding the plane and Nashville bound!

Ashley and I are headed to the Boulder Insurance LTD Risk & Claims Workshop in conjunction with Captive Resources LLC and we’re excited for the opportunity to connect with risk management, claims, and safety professionals from across the country.

I’m honored to be serving as the keynote speaker, presenting “Does Complacency Cultivate Risk in the Workplace?” We’ll be discussing how complacency quietly develops within organizations, the risks it creates, and what leaders can do to keep safety and risk management at the forefront.

On day two, I’ll be leading breakout sessions on “Finding Facts, Not Fault,” focusing on how organizations can improve incident investigations by identifying facts, uncovering root causes, and preventing future incidents rather than assigning blame.

This trip is especially meaningful because Ashley is joining me. As President of CS2 Safety, and my wife, it’s a blessing to build both a life and a business together. Every opportunity to travel, meet new people, and help organizations improve their safety performance is one we’re grateful for.

We’re looking forward to meeting the members of Boulder Insurance LTD, making new connections, sharing ideas, and learning from other professionals who are passionate about protecting people and reducing risk.

At CS2 Safety, our mission remains simple: help employers create safer workplaces, strengthen their risk management systems, and ensure workers return home safely at the end of every day. While Ohio may be where we started, we’re excited to continue expanding our impact across America.

If you’re attending the workshop, be sure to say hello. See you in Nashville!

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐳𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞.

It might be fatigue.

Most organizations recognize the risks associated with moving equipment, hazardous energy, working at heights, and other physical hazards. Yet one of the most significant contributors to workplace incidents often receives far less attention.

According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), fatigue can impair reaction time, decision-making, situational awareness, and overall performance. In many cases, a fatigued employee may recognize the hazard and know the correct response, but fail to react quickly enough or make the best decision in the moment.

That's what makes fatigue so dangerous.

It doesn't just affect the individual employee. It impacts communication, quality, productivity, equipment operation, and ultimately safety performance throughout the organization. Long hours, staffing shortages, shift schedules, stress, and excessive overtime can all contribute to fatigue-related risk.

The challenge for leaders is recognizing fatigue before it becomes an incident.

💡 Take a look at your last near miss, quality issue, or workplace injury. Was fatigue considered as a contributing factor? If not, there may be an opportunity to better understand the risks affecting your workforce.

✅ This week, challenge your supervisors to have one conversation with their teams about fatigue, workload, and recovery. Sometimes the most valuable safety conversations happen before the work begins.

💬 In your experience, what contributes most to workplace fatigue: overtime, staffing shortages, shift schedules, stress, or something else?

💧 Exciting News from CS2 Safety! 💧

We’re excited to announce a new partnership that allows us to provide workplace hydration solutions throughout Northeast Ohio as part of our commitment to helping employers build safer, healthier workplaces.

For years, many organizations have relied on bottled water to keep employees hydrated. While convenient, bottled water comes with recurring delivery costs, storage challenges, plastic waste, and growing concerns about microplastic exposure. Recent research has found that bottled water can contain significantly more microplastic and nanoplastic particles than many municipal water sources.

That’s why we’re helping employers transition to modern, plumbed drinking water systems that provide clean, filtered cold water, hot water, bottle-filling stations, and commercial ice machines. These systems help eliminate the hassle of bottled water while providing employees with reliable access to hydration throughout the workday.

But we don’t stop at equipment.

As OSHA continues to focus on heat illness prevention, access to clean drinking water remains one of the most important controls employers can provide. Our approach combines workplace hydration solutions with Heat Stress Prevention Programs, written policies, supervisor and employee training, and practical guidance to help organizations manage heat-related risks and maintain compliance.

Whether you’re operating an office, manufacturing facility, warehouse, distribution center, or construction company, proper hydration plays a critical role in employee safety, productivity, and overall well-being. Clean water and ice shouldn’t be a luxury, they should be a standard part of your safety program.

✅ Eliminate bottled water deliveries
✅ Reduce long-term costs
✅ Improve employee hydration
✅ Support heat stress prevention efforts
✅ Provide clean, filtered water and ice
✅ Receive heat stress policy development and training support

As we launch this new service, we are intentionally conducting a limited rollout and are looking for a small number of organizations to become our initial hydration and heat stress prevention partners. These early adopters will receive priority scheduling, personalized program development, and access to bundled service discounts as we expand this offering throughout Northeast Ohio.

Hydration isn’t just about comfort. It’s about protecting your people.

Contact CS2 Safety today to schedule your initial consultation and learn how we can help create a complete workplace hydration and heat stress management solution for your organization.

🎤 Looking forward to speaking at the Western Reserve Safety Council next month in partnership with the Solon Chamber of Commerce!

On Wednesday, July 8, I'll be presenting one of my favorite keynote sessions: **"Does Complacency Cultivate Risk in the Workplace?"**

Complacency is one of the most overlooked hazards in safety. It doesn't happen overnight, it develops quietly through routine, familiarity, and the belief that "it won't happen to me." During this session, we'll explore how complacency takes root, the impact it has on workplace decision-making, and practical strategies organizations can use to keep safety engagement strong.

I appreciate the opportunity to join safety professionals, business leaders, and employers from across the region at RollHouse in Solon for what should be a great discussion.

If you'll be attending, be sure to stop by and say hello. I always enjoy connecting with others who are passionate about building safer workplaces.

🇺🇸 Standing in front of the United States Department of Labor while on our family vacation in Washington, D.C. seemed like the perfect place to pause and reflect.

While this trip is about making memories with Ashley, Brynlee, and Meadow, one thing I’ve learned as a business owner is that the work never completely stops. Between museum visits, monuments, and family adventures, I’ve been spending some time preparing for upcoming safety seminars, training programs, speaking engagements, and mapping out the future growth of CS2 Safety.

The interesting thing is that when I reflect on where we are headed, the goal has never been simply about revenue. Of course, every business needs to be financially successful, but our mission is much bigger than that.

Our goal is to help people succeed.

Over the last year, I’ve spent countless hours helping other business owners, connecting people with resources, making introductions, reviewing ideas, and supporting organizations with no expectation of anything in return. Not because I expected a contract. Not because I expected a favor. But because I genuinely believe that when one of us succeeds, we all succeed.

Somewhere along the way, America lost a little bit of that mindset. We became focused on transactions instead of relationships. Competition instead of collaboration.

I believe we need more businesses that are willing to invest in people. More leaders who are willing to help others grow. More relationships built on trust instead of immediate returns.

That’s the culture we’re building at CS2 Safety.

Serve first. Help others win. Build relationships. The rest will take care of itself.

Now… back to vacation mode. 🇺🇸😎

𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠.
The problem is… many organizations still treat near misses like they don’t matter because “nobody got hurt.”

But in reality, a near miss and a serious injury often share the exact same root causes. The only difference is the outcome.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), investigating near misses is one of the most effective ways organizations can identify hazards and prevent future incidents before injuries occur. Yet in many workplaces, near misses still go unreported, uninvestigated, or are quietly brushed aside.

Why?

Because employees often believe one of three things:
👉 They’ll be blamed
👉 Nothing will change
👉 Leadership doesn’t actually want to hear about it

And that’s where safety culture becomes critical.

Organizations with strong safety cultures understand that near misses are not failures, they are intelligence. They provide organizations with an opportunity to identify system weaknesses, improve communication, correct unsafe conditions, and prevent injuries before someone’s family gets a phone call they never should have received.

The companies that improve are not the ones that pretend problems don’t exist.

They’re the ones willing to learn from what almost happened.

💡 One simple thing leaders can do today:
Instead of asking, “Did anyone get hurt?” ask your team:
👉 “What almost happened this week that we should learn from?”

That one question can completely change the conversation from reaction… to prevention.

💬 Does your organization actively encourage near miss reporting, or do employees still hesitate to speak up?

A huge thank you to the Safety Council of Southwestern Ohio for the opportunity to speak with everyone today! We had a great discussion around Generational Engagement and Safety: Building a Cross-Generational Safety Culture and how organizations can better connect, communicate, and engage employees across every generation in the workplace.

One of my favorite parts of these speaking engagements is hearing the different perspectives and real-world experiences from those in attendance. Safety conversations become far more impactful when we move beyond policies and procedures and focus on people, communication, and culture.

Normally after a presentation I make a stop for a local coffee shop ☕️… but today was a little different. Instead, I made the pilgrimage to Ohio’s newest (and first) Buc-ee’s 😁🥪. If you’re from the area, you already know… the hype is absolutely real.

Thank you again to everyone who attended, participated in the discussion, and shared your experiences throughout the session. I truly appreciate the opportunity to continue our 2026 speaking series with such a great group.

One thing I love about sharing speaking engagements, business wins, and adventures is that behind many of those moments are conversations that started years before.

Today I wanted to take a moment to recognize a friend and colleague, Mike Thompson owner of Mountain View Leadership.

Shortly after I took the leap to launch my own business, Mike started asking himself a similar question: What if I took the chance too?

Long before either of us made the move, we had countless conversations about what it would look like to step outside the walls of our offices and expand our impact, to reach more people, help more organizations, and create meaningful change beyond our immediate circles.

Mike took that leap of faith… and he’s been doing incredible things ever since.

What I appreciate most about Mike is that his approach isn’t the typical “come in and tell everyone what to do” consulting model. He focuses on people, culture, leadership, and creating change that starts internally, not by forcing action, but by helping individuals and teams transform from within.

And when people change, organizations change.

If you’re looking for a speaker, leadership coach, or someone who challenges organizations to think differently about culture and sustainable growth, give Mike a shout. The investment you make in yourself and your people can create rewards far beyond business outcomes.

Proud to see friends chasing the dream and building something meaningful. Keep doing great things, Mike 👏

There’s nothing better than when the Amazon driver shows up with a package you’ve actually been waiting for. 📦📚

Today’s delivery? Seven Practical Steps by Jake Mazulewicz.

I recently had the opportunity to record a podcast with Jake, and within minutes it became clear that we align on many of the same leadership and safety principles. The conversation was packed with ideas around culture, human performance, leadership, accountability, and how we create environments where people can actually succeed.

That said, what made the discussion even better was that we also challenged each other with different perspectives and approaches. Those are always the best conversations.

I was excited enough after our discussion that I didn’t just buy one copy of the book… I bought a second copy to pass along to another leader. 👊

I can’t wait for this podcast episode to drop because I truly believe there will be a ton of value for leaders, safety professionals, and organizations looking to grow their culture the right way.

In the meantime, check out Jake’s work, support an emerging author, and take a look at what JMA Human Reliability Strategies is doing. Good people doing meaningful work.
