August at Juniper Joy Farm brings a fun summer vibe! Pretty soon we’re entering into Autumn energy and can’t wait to harvest winter squash, pumpkins, spinach, and more cool weather crops.

There’s a little extra magic on the farm this time of year. ☀️

The hot summer days are giving us bins overflowing with tomatoes, peppers, squash, carrots, green beans, eggplants, cucumbers, cantaloupes, and flowers in every color. We grow these items with intention for you and your family.

But behind the pretty harvest photos are long days, stubborn weeds, sweaty clothes, tired muscles, and a never-ending list of things that need to be done. 😅🌱 Farming is hard work and summer has a way of keeping us humble.

Still, there’s something pretty special about standing in the middle of all that work and seeing what this little piece of land can produce. We’re tired, grateful, and enjoying the magic (and chaos) of a summer in full bloom.

The last week of July has been sunny and chaotic in the best way. Our home’s kitchen is finally being re-built (it flooded in January). We’re desperately trying to keep up with the farm’s weeds as we also plant lots of yummy crops for fall. If you’re in the area, we would love to see you at the farm stand this weekend! Open Friday & Saturday from 10:00-6:00!

The farm stand is OPEN for the weekend! We’ve stocked our fridge and shelves with gorgeous produce, flowers, and dry goods for your family. We even have a small quantity of vine-ripened tomatoes this week! 🍅

However, due to “very unhealthy air quality” caused by smoke migrating from Canada’s forest fires, we’re limiting our time outdoors. If we don’t get a chance to greet you this weekend, thanks for supporting your local farm. Stay safe out there!

July’s abundance is flowing at the farm.

The farm fridge is fully stocked for the weekend!

What’s in season for your family this week 🥕

Snapdragon bouquets & sunflower bouquets are available!!

Zucchini szn

We know you’re anxiously awaiting canteloupe and watermelon season - only a couple more weeks to go!! 🍈

Dark Red Norland & Yukon gold potatoes are incredible for roasting!

Calendula is a vibrant summer flower, with golden petals that deliver a bright and peppery flavor. These medicinal flowers have so many uses because they can brighten up a summer salad, but they’re also packed with skin-soothing carotenoids that shine in our skincare products. 🌼

Laying hundreds of feet of drip tape irrigation to a new growing bed is so much easier with this system of a center pole & sawhorses.

Golden beets are radiant right now if you’re into beets!

Harvesting lettuce for your summer crunch romaine mix!

Orange Fancy carrots are so sweet!

June at the farm has been wild and wonderful ☀️Our walk-in cold storage is bursting full of beautiful produce and fresh flowers that we’re working hard to grow for you all. The farm stand is full of new custom items like tshirts and tote bags. We’re also excited to start collaborating with other business owners in the Charlottesville community!

These days we’re working diligently on planting, seeding, harvesting, washing, packing, designing, weeding, tarping, deliveries, mowing… you get it. It’s the summer of late nights and early mornings, maintaining the farm and our 11 acre property, while also renovating our kitchen. The veggies are bright and flavorful, despite the drought we’re in still. Lately we learned the cold storage is also a fantastic place to cool off during the workday. Thanks for being here and following along with us lately!

The sound of rain means something completely new to us as farmers. It’s a welcome relief, as our county is considered to be in a state of “extreme drought.” It means more vibrant vegetables, luscious green growth, birds singing, flowers standing prouder, and seeds peeking out of soil quicker.

June has been wonderfully busy at the farm. The spring crops & summer crops have a sweet overlap of harvest time right now. We’re crunching on juicy sugar snap peas as the sunflowers begin to burst into bloom.

A highlight for us in the last couple days is our garlic harvest! They look & smell amazing, but harvesting took longer than we expected because the garlic bulbs were basically super-glued into the clay soil… it was worth it though.

Most of the US’s garlic is grown overseas, and grocery store garlic likely travels hundreds or thousands of miles before reaching your kitchen. Our garlic is grown organically right here in Central Virginia and only travels a couple yards before it’s on the shelf.
