Youโ€™re the visionary.

The one with the big dream, the deadlines, and the drive to make it happen.

But while youโ€™re charging toward the goal lineโ€ฆ

Whoโ€™s keeping your dream safe and secure?

๐Ÿฅ‹Whoโ€™s making sure youโ€™re compliant and on target with your goals?
๐Ÿฅ‹Whoโ€™s protecting your people and your processes as you grow?
๐Ÿฅ‹Whoโ€™s making sure you donโ€™t run amok before you get to that finish line?

Thatโ€™s where the HR Ninja comes in.

I help small to mid-sized employers move fast โ€” without breaking whatโ€™s working.

Your dream deserves protection as much as it deserves progress.

Letโ€™s talk about how HR strategy can support your growth:

This morning I had a deep and meaningful conversation about one of the hardest parts of leadership: hiring and letting go.

Candidates today know how to show up and interview well. But what happens when the person who shows up for work isnโ€™t the same person you thought you hired?

As an employer, itโ€™s frustratingโ€”and concerning. Documentation matters, but itโ€™s not enough. You also need to look at how one employeeโ€™s performance is impacting your team and your clients.

Your reputation is everything. You cannot afford to let one person put that at risk.

And hereโ€™s the truth: if someone isnโ€™t working out for you, chances areโ€”you arenโ€™t working out for them either.

Letting someone go should be done with kindness, compassion, and swiftness. Because doing the hard thing the right way serves everyone involved.

๐Ÿ‘‰ If youโ€™re struggling with these kinds of tough decisions, thatโ€™s where I step in. As an HR consultant, I help small businesses navigate hiring, documentation, and terminations with confidenceโ€”protecting both your people and your reputation. Letโ€™s connect.

Setting Clear Boundaries: The Key to Accountability in the Workplace

I dislike it when a manager shares notes from an employee meeting, especially when the expectations and consequences for the employee are unclear. ๐Ÿฅ‹

Establishing clear boundaries and expectations for employee performance is crucial in todayโ€™s fast-paced work environment. Small talk and sugarcoating can lead to misunderstandings. Instead, communicate openly and honestly about what is expected and the consequences of not meeting those standards. ๐Ÿฅ‹

Consequences are essential for accountability, not punishment. When employees understand the repercussions of their actions, they are more likely to take their responsibilities seriously. Sharing these consequences upfront ensures everyone knows the stakes involved. ๐Ÿฅ‹

Most importantly, consistency is vital. If you outline expectations and consequences, you must follow through to maintain authenticity in your leadership. Failing to do so undermines your authority and erodes trust. ๐Ÿฅ‹

In short, clear communication and enforceable boundaries foster a productive workplace. Embrace directness and accountability, and empower your team to take ownership of their performance. ๐Ÿฅ‹

Letโ€™s get to work!๐Ÿฅ‹

Throughout my career, I've repeatedly observed (and experienced) how individuals are promoted to management roles based on their expertise, yet often lack the necessary support to truly thrive in those positions.

While it's true that top performers may excel in their roles, we cannot assume they will automatically become effective managers. It's vital to provide the support needed to set them up for success.

Here are several ways to do just that: ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

๐Ÿฅ‹ Invest Your Time: Share your journey and insights as a leader. Be there to listen, support, and allow them to ask questions without judgment. Creating a space for vulnerability can help them grow immensely.

๐Ÿฅ‹ Find a Mentor: Connect them with someone in or outside your organization who can offer guidance. Creativity is key in matching them with the right support.

๐Ÿฅ‹ Encourage Leadership Programs: Many local chambers of commerce and colleges offer professional leadership programs that can be invaluable.

๐Ÿฅ‹ Consider a Coach: Hiring a career development coach can give them dedicated one-on-one time for learning, connection, and a safe space to express their thoughts and feelings.

By actively supporting our future leaders, we ensure not only their success but the success of our teams and organizations as a whole. Let's commit to fostering growth in management roles!

No matter what words you use, the employee hears โ€œyouโ€™re fired.โ€

You can say any of these :
โ—๏ธ Reorganization
โ—๏ธTransitioned
โ—๏ธ Let go
โ—๏ธ Regroup
โ—๏ธ Merged
โ—๏ธ Restructured

The only thing the candidate heard was โ€œyouโ€™re fired.โ€

So pleaseโ€ฆ

โŒ Skip the small talk
โŒ Donโ€™t try to make them feel better.
โŒ Donโ€™t make the conversation any longer than it has to be.

Be direct and to the point. Tell them the truth. There is nothing you can say to make them feel better.

And if youโ€™re the one they report to, whether it was your decision or not, please tell them yourself.

Please donโ€™t leave it to HR. We have enough emotional work on our plates. We are happy to be in the room for support. Thatโ€™s what we are here for.

Iโ€™ve been on both sides of the desk. I understand how youโ€™re feeling.

If youโ€™re in the position of having these conversations, Iโ€™m here to support you. I once had someone hug me and say, "Thanks for all you did for me," when I told her she was fired. I can help you cultivate kindness and compassion.

If youโ€™re on the other side of this conversation and donโ€™t know what to do next, Iโ€™m here for you, too. It's not the end, just the next step. You have value, you have worth, and it does not come from that job.

DM me. I'm here to listen and support.

I spent this morning in a not so comfortable situation. I went to a diversity conference, knowing that Iโ€™d be the usual โ€œwhite ladyโ€ in the group.

I was a little uncomfortable going in as I donโ€™t have a diverse background at all, so how can I be part of the change?

I meanโ€ฆ. I donโ€™t know what I donโ€™t know.

But what I found is that I just need to talk to people.

The beautiful lady next to me, who couldnโ€™t be more different than me, turned to me at one point and said, โ€œthank you for smiling, and speaking to me. When I first came in the other people in the room were all keeping them selves and didnโ€™t speak to me. I was very very uncomfortable coming alone. But you turned and smiled at me and said, hello how are you, and started a conversation and it made me feel so good.โ€

What I realized in that moment is that we all are just human. We all just want to be seen and heard.

I donโ€™t begin to mean that is how we fix anything or lead diversity. However, I do think is the first step to learning what I donโ€™t know.

I learned a lot this morning about how to be more aware and how to start the conversation. I also learned that small steps are a start and so appreciated by others.

So hereโ€™s what I leave you with:

Be the change you wish to see in the world.

Jim Rohn said there are only 9 mean people in the world, you just run into them over and over again. I occasionally butt heads with one of those 9.

~ Am I prefect? No.
~ Do I sometimes forget to include someone in a decision? Yes.
~ Do I make mistakes? Yes.

Know what else? I don't go to church, and I sometimes swear. Yup. I said it.

But here is what I also do...

~ I smile and treat others nicely, even when I'm in a bad mood.
~ I tell the truth even if it hurts me or someone else.
~ I take responsibility for my own actions and don't blame others.
~ I say I'm sorry when I'm wrong.
~ I treat others with respect, even when they don't deserve it.
~ I read the Bible and pray to God.
~ I try to listen and understand someone else's point of view.

And you know what? At the end of the day I can look myself in the mirror and have no regrets. I can sleep at night knowing I tried my best to do my best.

Some people will like me, some won't. I cannot control that and I won't pretend to be someone else to make them like me. That's what makes the world go around. Think of what the world would be like if we were all the same.

This post isn't looking for attention or because I need to make myself feel better. It's about treating ourselves with compassion and not letting others make you feel bad about yourself because they don't agree with you.

Stand up. Be Proud. Be you. And most of all. JUST BE NICE!

I was given one of the best compliments I could have gotten from someone last night when I was told I did something with integrity.

You have nothing in this world if you donโ€™t have a good reputation. I stress this to my clients, coworkers, and Tae Kwon Do students.

Doing the right thing isnโ€™t aways easy, but itโ€™s always right.

Whatโ€™s one of the greatest compliments youโ€™ve ever been given?

Pointing out someone elseโ€™s mistakes publicly doesnโ€™t make you look better, it makes you look small.
