The futurists say that someday, when we want something, we’ll go to the 3D printer ( or replicator) and it will be printed for us. Heard that a lot when I started dabbling in 3D printing. 3 years and 7 printers later I am reminded of this as this morning was the first time experiencing this. My wife, the crab slayer, needed a measuring device to take out with her on her paddle board to check her traps.
Found a measuring tool after a quick search on Thingiverse. Sliced it in Cura, and in 10 minutes the Ultimaker was printing the part. Took 4 1/2 hours to print but that’s ok, we were not in a hurry.
Maybe in 20 years this will be the way we start getting things in our homes. I think it is still going to be awhile before 3D printing is user friendly enough to be practical for the non-technical type who just wants a hamburger.
