The hardest thing about leading through an AI moment is that the playbook doesn't exist yet.

I've talked to a lot of CEOs who are waiting for someone else to go first.

I'm in the middle of figuring it out.

What I do know: the leaders who are honest with their teams about what they don't know yet are the ones building the most trust right now.

Think selling a business is a financial decision?

It's not. It's an emotional one.

I was talking with Craig Dickens at Merit Bank about this. The owners who've built something real don't lie awake worrying about the price. They worry about their people. What happens to the team they spent years building after they hand over the keys.

That's the conversation nobody prepares you for.

It’s usually an ex*****on problem.

The plan is usually fine. The meeting where everyone agreed was real. The follow-through is where it falls apart.

I've seen it enough times to stop being surprised by it. The gap between deciding and doing is where most companies lose the year.

Fixing it starts with being honest about where the gap actually is.

Some problems work themselves out on the trail.

I'm speaking at the IEA Conference in Akron this October and I've been looking forward to it for a while.

The International Executives Association puts serious people in the same room. Sept 30 through Oct 2 at the Sheraton Suites in Cuyahoga Falls. One of the sessions is on AI and sales, which is right in the middle of what I'm thinking about most right now.

I don't have AI figured out. Neither does anyone else who's being honest. That's actually why I want to be in that room.

If you're an IEA member or just want to be around that conversation, take a look: ieaweb.com/annual-conference/2026-annual-iea-conference-akron-oh-sept-30-oct-2-2026.html

Most CRM debates are about the wrong thing.

People spend months choosing a platform. The buttons are just in different places. What matters is knowing what you need the system to do before you pick one.

OneAccord Principle Jesse Kreun and I talked about this. Worth a watch.

A few hours in the mountains can do more for clarity than a week at the desk.

Highly recommend.

The hardest leadership shift I've made in the last two years isn't about AI.

It's about pace.

I used to think clarity came from slowing down. Now I think clarity comes from moving deliberately while the world moves fast around you.

That's a different muscle, and I'm still building it.

A few years ago with my father-in-law.

There's a particular kind of gratitude you build for the man who raised the woman you married. Quiet, steady, earned over years of porches and dinners and showing up.

Lucky to call him family.
