Heads up Title Clerks! 📣 Per the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles, effective October 25, 2023, vehicles that are 26 model years and older will be exempt from the requirement for a certificate of title.

To help customers adapt to this change in law and procedure, the Bureau will continue to process applications for model years 1995, 1996, and 1997 from October 25, 2023 to December 31, 2023. Last week, MIMVA had an engaging meeting with the Maine BMV's Titling division to discuss an upcoming transition to electronic lien titling that will impact our membership.
The BMV is instituting these changes as part of its Electronic Lien Titling Program (ELT) which will go live in January 2024. ELT will allow lenders to exchange title and lien information electronically. Your dealership will continue to submit all title applications and supporting documents on paper. 📝
