Here’s one of those little business-owner things nobody really explains when you decide to start a business…

You register the business, open the bank account, start making money—and then you're expected to somehow know all the rules that come with it. 😂

This is one of those areas that seems harmless in the moment, but doing it correctly from the beginning can save you a lot of headaches later.

I put together this quick reference because sometimes knowing what not to do is just as valuable as knowing what to do.

And if you've already been doing it differently, don't panic. Most things in bookkeeping can be corrected. 💚

Can I tell you a little secret?

Almost every new client apologizes before I even look at their books.

"I know it's a mess..."
"I'm embarrassed..."
"Please don't judge me."

And every single time, I tell them the same thing...

I can guarantee I’ve seen worse.

Seriously!

I've seen years of unreconciled accounts, transactions in all the wrong places, duplicate income, missing expenses, and enough uncategorized transactions to make QuickBooks wave the white flag.

The good news?

Messy books don't make you a bad business owner!

Most entrepreneurs are busy doing what they do best..serving customers, running jobs, answering calls, putting out fires, and trying to keep everything moving. Bookkeeping usually ends up at the bottom of the list, and honestly... I get it.

That's why I love what I do!

There's something incredibly satisfying about taking financial chaos and turning it into something that finally makes sense. Watching a business owner breathe a sigh of relief after seeing accurate numbers for the first time is one of my favorite parts of this job.

If you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit and are wondering where your refund is, don’t panic. You can expect to get your refund by March 3 if:

• You filed your return online
• You chose to get your refund by direct deposit
• We found no issues with your return

Feb 8th: Last day to efile corrected 1099s or W2s

March 1: Tangible Personal Property and Real Estate taxes are due

March 15: S Corp and Partnership‘s federal and state returns are due.

April 1: Secretary of State Annual Reports due

April 15: C Corp, Trust and Individual federal tax returns due

January 26th, the IRS opens up filing for 2025 tax year!

January 31rst is the deadline to have 1099 and W2s filed!
