A PARADE FOR OUR QUEEN: Knoxville TN Friday September 4th The parade celebrating Dolly Parton will step off at 7:00 p.m. at the City County Building lawn. Participants will travel a half mile route along Main Street, Walnut Street, Cumberland Avenue and Market Street, ending at Market square. Led by the Cattywampus Puppet Council 's "Big Dolly" puppet and it's Knox Honkers and Bangers Community Marching Band. The procession invites participants to sing, dance and reflect on Dolly's impact on our region, our world, and our own lives.

Knoxville LGBTQ Friendly Business Directory Come celebrate everything Dolly with us. Participants are encouraged to dress bold and colorful, bring signs, art, flowers or other offerings. The parade will end at Market Square near the Dolly Parton mural in Strong Alley where offerings may be left in her memory.

SAD NEWS: Our "Queen" Dolly Parton has passed on. The Parton Family announced in a video on Dolly Parton's page that she has died today August 25 2026 at 80 yrs old.

Dolly was known in East Tennessee and throughout the United States as a Appalachian born singer-songwriter who did not just give her voice and music to the community but also contributed millions of dollars to support the region and enrich lives with her projects such as the free book program "Imagination Library."

People have started placing flowers at the base of her statue in Sevierville, Tennessee, and at her mural on the graffiti wall at Historic Market Square, Knoxville in downtown Knoxville Tennessee. In lieu of flowers I will add the information for donating directly to the Imagination library.

Beau Knowles LGBT This will be hard for many of us. Most of us in Tennessee considered her family. I remember once my daughter asked if she could write Dolly a letter to see if she wanted to buy Girl Scout cookies since she was family. 😓

No matter what your musical preference, your religion, your political belief, or the way you live your life, we can all agree Dolly was a Saint and will be greatly missed by many of us.

Those of us that followed Dolly on her social media or went to her concerts, knew that she was ill. She last posted her doctor had told her not to fly or travel but Dolly's nature was to work, to sing and to spend time on her special projects. She most likely worked up until the end.

Rest in peace Dolly.

LOOKING FOR SIGNS OF LGBTQ FRIENDLINESS July 4 2026 Happy July 4th my friends. I have new information to share. While taking photos on North Central Avenue I was able to catch the Pirate Pride Flag in full bravado at the Pirate Tavern. This is a perfect example of LGBTQ Friendliness.

Friday was a hot July day in Knoxville, TN. I thought I'd get a soft serve cone from Mr Freezo on N. Central Street. I parked near the old Club XYZ preparing to take a photo of the building (minus its iconic signs for the Knoxville Q***r History Project). While there, I saw 3 people emerge from XYZ's front door. Where does your mind go? Mine went to “new renter of 1215 N Central Street?” I jumped out of the car before I even finished my ice cream cone. Yes, I've met the new renters. No, they wouldn't disclose if their new space was going to be another gay bar but they said, "Of course it will be LGBTQ Friendly."

I gave them my business card and went on my way. I'm not a reporter after all, I only want to know where the LGBTQ-Friendly & Safe Spaces are. Who knows, when I left they probably thought "that was a q***r woman." Yes, quite.

I just saw this. You have a day and a half to get your dog microchip. I really recommend this. They register the microchip for you. The first thing the shelter will do if your Lost Pet is brought in is check for a microchip. A collar can come off, Protect your fur baby. Beau Knowles LGBT

MANY SAFE SPACES ON NORTH CENTRAL STREET: June 26 2026 The gay bar Club XYZ announced Monday that their last day open to the public will be Saturday June 27th. This is a sudden closing that has left many of us in the Knoxville lgbtq community saddened as Club XYZ was a bar that many people visited in its 22 years of operation. On Monday June 29th the bar will have a liquidation sale to empty their space at 1215 N Central Street.

As the owner of Knoxville's LGBTQ Friendly Business Directory I'm seeing questions and concerns on social media that I feel qualified to answer.

The closing of Club XYZ brings Knoxville down to one gay bar? Though we may only have one gay bar, the Core Knoxville, we have several bars, and breweries that are lgbtq friendly and supportive, for example Hi-Wire Brewing, South Side Garage, Alliance Brewing, the Pink Cactus, the Boocherie, Sassy Ann's and many more. In Maryville we have the Bird and the Book Pub and Daisy's NA bar. I will add a link to my list in the comments.

We are losing a safe space? While this business is in transition we still have many Safe Spaces, LGBTQ Friendly, Owned and Operated Businesses in Knoxville.

North Central Street is one of several streets that I recommend to visitors and new residents. Both sides of the street in the Happy Holler area are LGBTQ Friendly and Supportive with businesses such as Pirate's Tavern, Central Cinema, Chop Shop Salon, and Rosie Tattoos. Plus New Moon Rising Metaphysical shop, Oddities Hair Parlour and 3 Rivers Market are a few blocks away.

The future for this street? I'm hoping that a new Q***r Owned or Friendly Business will move in to 1215 N Central St. preferably a gay bar but any LGBTQ Friendly business will do. One of the important things that I note here is that there are many lgbtq supportive businesses and nonprofits in Knoxville.
