We recently added another set of hands around the shop. Our mother-in-law has started helping us a few days a week, and she’s taken an interest in the laser engraving side of what we do.

She had been looking at some of the inexpensive diode lasers on Amazon as a starter machine, so we figured why not? We picked one of the 6W Acmer lasers up, set it up, and decided to see what the little thing could actually do before teaching her how to run it herself.

Cheap doesn’t always mean bad. It does, however, usually mean SLOW.

We had it assembled and running within a matter of minutes and started testing it on some of the same material we use for our engraved morale patches. The results are actually pretty impressive for such an inexpensive machine. The catch is that it takes roughly 6x longer to engrave a design compared to our larger 22W diode laser or OMTech CO2.

For production? That extra time adds up quickly.

For learning? It’s perfect.

We added a 12” x 12” honeycomb bed and a 4” exhaust fan, and now she’ll have her own little setup where she can learn the basics of laser engraving, materials, speeds, power settings, focusing, and LightBurn without tying up one of our production machines.

Everybody has to start somewhere. Before long, we may have her running circles around us.

Ever wonder why our product photos look so consistent?

When you see a photograph of one of our patches on the website, you’re looking at the actual patch we made, not an AI-generated version of it.

We photograph our patches ourselves using a pretty simple setup: controlled lighting, a backdrop, consistent positioning, and a little patience. It lets us keep hundreds of product listings looking consistent while still showing you the real product you’ll receive.

That’s important to us. Colors, stitching, print quality, texture, borders, and fine details can look very different on a computer-generated mockup compared to the finished product. We want you to know what you’re actually buying.

For brand-new designs that haven’t made it through our photography setup yet, we may temporarily use a digital preview exported directly from our embroidery software and placed into one of our product templates. Once we have the physical patch made and photographed, we can replace it with the real thing.

So when you’re scrolling through our site and see those close-up patch photos, there’s a real patch sitting in front of a camera somewhere behind the scenes at JEK.

What you see is what we make.

Spent the better part of yesterday and today getting our finishing & shipping office cleaned and reorganized, while this lazy bum thinks the window is now her new bed. She definitely loves the sun shining in on her.

July and August were a little busy around here.

In just those two months, our website alone brought in 1,580 morale patch orders totaling 3,966 patches, shipping to customers all across the country.

And that’s just the morale patch orders placed directly through our website.

Those numbers don’t include our other ecommerce marketplaces, custom and bulk orders, wholesale work, stickers, decals, embroidered hats, uniforms, signage, engraving, or any of the other projects moving through the shop every week.

For a small business like ours, seeing this map filled in from coast to coast is pretty incredible. Every single number represents somebody who chose to spend their money with a small business and trusted us to make something for them.

Whether you ordered one patch, filled up a whole bag with them, placed a bulk order, shared one of our posts, recommended us to somebody, or came back for another order, thank you.

We genuinely appreciate the support more than we can put into a Facebook post. You all are the reason the machines stay running, new designs keep getting made, and this little business keeps growing.

And apparently Texas really likes morale patches. 182 orders in two months. Y’all win this round. We couldn’t have done this without out partners over at LoneStar Adhesive and their amazing team!

We are temporarily pausing all vinyl cut decals on our store and sites. We just simply don’t have enough time to cut, w**d, and prepare these style decals while our other product are outselling our vinyl at 10 times the pace. We will bring them back once we get caught up and settled into a smoother routine and our new employee is able to contribute attention to that line of product.

We are continuing to update product photos today while enjoying the return of college football. It finally feels like a true Saturday.

We recently took delivery of our new Merrow MG-3U machine and our patches are receiving a huge update. Along with that, comes new product photos and taking time to capture the details.

New employee starting today!!! Pretty excited that we are to a point that we absolutely had to find someone to help us out in the shop. It has always just been Kate and me in the shop, every single day, 16-18 hours a day. As we are growing, so is our demand for someone helping with production to increase our daily output.
