Hackers often like to swindle unsuspecting victims into giving them access to their devices. They play this out through phishing tactics, the worst case being where they pose as a trusted IT staff. Whether through phone calls or face-to-face encounters, hackers use this dark tactic to trick victims into willingly giving them access to a corporate system.

Last month, the FBI stated that the Silent Ransom Group, or the Luna Moth, is the ransom group responsible for a majority of cyberattacks that have been targeting US-based law firms since 2023.

According to the FBI, the threat actor has sent numerous phishing emails to charge small “subscription fees” to unsuspecting victims. To cancel this “subscription”, the victim is instructed to call the number in the email, which puts them on the phone with the cyber criminals.

With advancements in AI, this ransom group can easily pass for authentic to unsuspecting victims. The FBI has offered a few pointers on how to prevent cyberattacks, including,
• Verifying credentials of all employees in your company
• Limiting access to sensitive data from less secure networks, such as home or public internet
• Conduct staff training regarding phishing scams and what to do about them
• Require multi-factor authentication for most services
• Block access to particular ports, primarily ones that enable encrypted remote access

No one likes increasing prices. Sadly, with factors such as inflation and tariffs, prices are going to increase on so many things.
When it comes to technology devices, the primary reason to price increases lie with memory storage. Devices like laptops, smartphones, gaming consoles, or anything else that requires memory are facing price increases.

The source could be simple: the AI industry. As AI advances, the demand for it increases, causing issues in multiple fields, including the job market and the tech industry.

Some notable price increases include the following:
• Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 514- prices increased up to $150 last month
• Dell XPS14-Starting prices increased from $1,599.99 to $1,899.99 ($300 increase) last month
• Framework DDR5- one module from Framework increased from $40 to $160 year over year
• Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14- Prices increased up to $250 year over year
• Microsoft Surface Laptops-Prices increased $100 to $500 ($400 increase) in April
• Samsung Galaxy S26- Price increased from $800 to $900 ($100 increase) in March

To sum it up, in 2026, prices of gaming consoles have increased 32.77% on average, while phone and laptop prices have increased on average 23.27% and 25.27% respectively.
Tech experts state that the market should hopefully adapt; this crisis could potentially end, but we should not expect prices to come back down anytime soon.

Today is World Ocean Day, a day where we highlight why the ocean matters for all of us on Earth.
Our oceans cover over 70% of our planet, making it the lifeblood of Earth. Our oceans generate at least 50% of the oxygen we breath, regulate climate by absorbing about 30% of human-produced carbon dioxide, house a majority of Earth’s biodiversity and life, and fuels the economy via jobs in fishing, tourism, and transportation.

We at ANC have stressed the importance of protecting water sources from things such as data centers. This should include our vast oceans that are critically important to our planet.
So today, recognize the importance of our oceans and why we should take better care to protect the seas.

Application Programing Interfaces, or APIs, are handy for sharing data among software. As a set of rules, an API allows different application to communicate and share data with one another. APIs are handy for many things we use in our daily lives, including weather apps, login pages for social media, and online store checkouts.
Unfortunately, like anything else in the world of technology, APIs are vulnerable to hackers, malware, and cyber attacks…

Windows 11 is the current application from Microsoft. Last month, the company has issued an article regarding some new updates for the application.
Microsoft is currently in the progress of releasing an updated version of Windows 11, version 26H1. The new version should support some new device innovations that are being released this year. However, devices running this new version will not be able to update to the next annual feature update for the second half of the year.

There are two notable new features with this update; a change for the Start Menu and Windows Search.
• Improvements for the Start menu include:
• Renaming the “recommended” section to “recent”
• Section-level toggles to independently show/hide tabs
• The choice between a small or large Start Menu
• The option for the user to hide their name and profile picture
• A redesigned settings page
As for Windows Search, the company is primarily updating how results will be shared. Clients can now search by a substring; files with compound names will be easier to find.

For more information, feel free to read the official article from Microsoft’s blog.

For soccer fans, the FIFA World Cup is around the corner, beginning next month. Some fans may even plan to watch the games live at the stadium. However, to anyone who is planning such a big trip, be wary when looking to buy tickets; there are so many fraudulent domains by cybercriminals impersonating the official FIFA website.

There are more than 4300 fraudulent websites out there attempting these schemes! According to an analysis from Group-IB, these activities span from six different forms of fraud and four independent threat actors that are working the event.
The prime suspect of this shady operation is likely to be Ghost Stadium, a Chinese-speaking and profit driven threat actor that runs more than 300 phishing domains.
The fake websites look authentic because the cybercriminals use official logos and product images, and AI tools only them to look more legitimate. In other cases, the fake websites post ads on social media platforms, like Facebook, to direct victims towards these fraudulent websites.

Looking to buy tickets? Your safest bet is to buy only through the official website. Check the domain name and for any grammar errors, or a lack of reviews, to ensure that the website is legitimate.
Stay safe while online, and beware of fraudulent websites and cyber criminals.

Many computer users out there have Microsoft programs on their devices. Recently, Microsoft has published a handful of security updates that were designed to fix 120 CVEs. About 16 of these security updates were discovered by a new multi-model agentic security system.
About 14 of these critical vulnerabilities were classed as remote code ex*****on (RCE), two were elevation of privilege (EoP) flaws, and one was an information disclosure vulnerability.
As Microsoft published the security updates, tech experts from outside the company advise Microsoft users to regularly update their computers and cybersecurity measures, to fully ensure that their devices stay safe from hackers.
