Your waiting room can do more than play music.

Patients are already sitting there, and there’s a good chance they don’t know about every service you offer.

A short message between songs can introduce things like whitening, Invisalign, skin checks, referral programs, or seasonal reminders without adding more work for your staff.

They’re already there. They’re already listening.

Why not make that time useful?

A potential client recently asked us this exact question. Does this sound familiar? "Our gym pays ASCAP and BMI directly, and our class instructors use Spotify playlists. Is this ok?"

Sorry, you're still not legally compliant.

Here's the gap nobody tells you about:
*PRO licenses (ASCAP/BMI/SESAC/GMR) = the rights to play music publicly
*A commercial music platform = how that music actually gets delivered

Having one doesn't replace the other. The good news? Your instructors can keep their playlists - strength day, conditioning, the Saturday mix. Using our Spotify Playlist Import feature, their favorite tracks get matched against a fully licensed library and can be played in the commercially compliant Custom Channels dashboard.

Have more than one location? You can see what every location and device is playing from a single pane of glass.

The only tradeoff: they pick the playlist, not the exact song order. That's the line between "licensed" and "not."

If your gym runs group classes, give us a call. To learn more about instructor-led fitness class licensing, click the link in the comments.

Music licensing is not a new issue for grocery operators. But it is one with a lot of moving parts.

ASCAP. BMI. SESAC. GMR. Consumer streaming services. Direct licensing. Multi-location management.

So we did a deep dive and put together a full guide to how music licensing actually works for grocery stores.

It covers what each PRO does, what operators need to know, where the common gaps are, and how business music services handle licensing at scale.

The full guide went live today on the Custom Channels blog.

Most restaurants are leaving money on the table.

Not because of the food.
Because of the music.

In a study of 1.8M+ transactions, restaurants saw ~9% higher spend when music matched their brand.

Same menu.
Same space.
Different sound → different revenue.

Yet most places still rely on:
• Staff playlists
• Spotify accounts
• Whatever feels right in the moment

That’s not strategy. That’s randomness.

The best operators treat music like they treat lighting, menus, and service flow: intentionally.

Because sound shapes how long guests stay, how they feel, and what they spend.

A surprising number of businesses are playing music illegally without realizing it.

Consumer streaming licenses usually don’t cover commercial spaces.

Most owners don’t learn this until it’s too late.

The mistake many businesses make with music:

They play whatever playlist is convenient.

But music tempo alone can change how customers behave in a space.

Restaurants, retail stores, and casinos have used this psychology for decades.

One of the most common things we hear from business owners: “Wait… Spotify isn’t licensed for businesses?”

Most people assume if they’re paying for a streaming subscription, they’re covered.

But consumer streaming licenses are usually personal use only.

That’s why commercial music licensing exists.

Most business owners think music just affects mood.

But music also affects behavior.

Tempo changes:

• how fast people walk
• how long they stay
• how quickly they eat

That’s why restaurants often play slower music during dinner service.

Something surprising we run into all the time:

A business spends months designing lighting, menus, branding and atmosphere.

Then they just open Spotify and hit play.

A business spends months designing lighting, menus, branding, and atmosphere.

Music isn’t just background noise. ITchanges:

• how fast customers walk
• how long they stay
• how much they spend

Most businesses never think about this.
