Happy Holidays Everyone! Fun Landscape Rescue trivia to enjoy. Per an article published in Indiana Outdoor magazine a few years back, a squirrel needs to collect & store nuts to have protein to survive an Indiana winter. This requires a single squirrel to collect approx. 1,200 Walnuts. To have the same amount of protein requires 2,400 Hickory nuts. If neither are available or are in short supply, then a squirrel must collect 4,000 Acorns to stock up for the long winter. Think about this for a moment the next time you see a squirrel in the fall collecting nuts for the winter. I enjoyed seeing natures bounty on the trails in Brown County on a hike recently. The Moral of this story is it is about the quality of the harvest and not the quantity… look for the walnuts to collect in your daily life!
