I'm happy to see this! Let's keep putting laws into place that protect and support survivors.

Today is a big day for survivors across Louisiana. Governor Jeff Landry signed my bill, HB 1247, the Services For Survivors of Sexually Oriented Criminal Offenses Access Act, into law!

Every survivor deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and care. SANE nurses are often the first people a survivor encounters, providing critical care and collecting evidence to hold offenders accountable.

This law creates a statewide SANE Coordinator, expands access through a mobile SANE programming, brings forensic medical experts to the policy table, and ensures Louisiana stays committed to this critical need.

So proud to get this done for the state I love.

Louisiana has to do better at addressing the issue of domestic violence. This is unacceptable.

We cannot begin to address the problem without talking about it. This is one of the reasons I chose to share my story in my book.

The executive director of a support center in Baton Rouge said Louisiana consistently ranks among the states with the highest rates of women killed by men in domestic violence cases, and that the damage doesn’t end with the victim.

Women’s History Month is deeply personal to me.

I am proud to be a woman who chose courage over silence…
