Conservation is a buzzword often used to describe a noble act like saving the rainforest or washing oil off a duckling. Sometimes, it’s using a saw to mow down your favorite tree to mitigate the spread of an invasive species.

Two years ago we found balsam wooly adelgid (BWA) in Missaukee County and we’re now actively trying to stop the spread while determining its reach on the landscape.

Check out this link for more information:

Managing your forest can feel overwhelming—especially if you don’t have a trusted resource to turn to. If you have a forest-related question or concern and live in Missaukee, Wexford, or Kalkaska counties, there is a free, unbiased source of information available to help.

Meet Marshall Moore, your local Conservation District forester. Many of you may remember Larry Czelusta; Marshall has stepped into that role and is ready to help you assess your forest and determine what it needs.

Marshall can be reached at [email protected] or 231-258-3307.

Don’t hesitate to reach out and start the conversation about your forest.
