Bibliotheca

Bibliotheca We make the library experience seamless for over 30,000 libraries worldwide. Things are changing at lightning speed.

For over 50 years, Bibliotheca has partnered with libraries to meet the needs of their communities worldwide. It’s time to imagine what a library can do—what a library can be—today and tomorrow.

Libraries are competing with the best in consumer technologies and can’t afford to stick with the status quo. At Bibliotheca, we aren’t just keeping up with the times, we’re inventing the future.

Thr

ough integrated technology we reimagine how libraries function, to inspire and delight all kinds of people, wherever they are: at home, on the move, or within the library walls.

Bibliotheca works with 30,000 libraries around the globe to make the library experience—physical and digital—seamless, intuitive, and inclusive. We work wonders for library staff too.

As degreed librarians and avid library users, we understand not only the unique management challenges that libraries face, but also what the future of library service will demand.

We pair global insight with strong local support, so no matter where you are, we’ve got a team nearby to help you make sure your library is ready.

Across the United States, September is Library Card Sign-up Month!

Since 1987, the American Library Association and libraries nationwide have used the month to highlight everything a library card can unlock, from books and digital resources to programs, technology, creative tools, and new opportunities.

This year’s honorary chair is Laufey, the two-time GRAMMY®-winning Icelandic-Chinese singer and composer — and a passionate reader who founded the Laufey Book Club.

The last ten feet of a library matter more than they might seem.

The security gate sits where collection protection, privacy, accessibility, circulation technology, and entrance design all meet.

Our latest article looks at the history of library security, the differences between electromagnetic and RFID systems, what gates actually detect, why security starts before the door, and how privacy and accessibility factor into entrance design.

Winner of the Most Innovative Demo Award at IFLA WLIC 2026, the Digital Book Kiosk brings multimedia content directly onto the pages of a physical book. Images, video, text, and animation are projected as patrons turn the pages, combining a familiar reading experience with interactive digital content.

Already in use at institutions across South Korea, the technology will now be available to libraries internationally through Bibliotheca.

Steve Miller joined the 3M research labs 30 years ago. He is still building library technology today, now as a product development leader at Bibliotheca.

Over three decades, Steve has helped design nearly every product in the Tattle-Tape® line and contributed to our selfCheck and RFID portfolios. Much of the hardware that libraries rely on reflects Steve’s engineering work.

Colleagues also know Steve for his involvement with the Social Committee and as the chef behind many office events. At today’s Americas Townhall, our CEO, Matt Bellamy, presented Steve with a plaque recognizing his 30th anniversary.

Congratulations on 30 years, Steve. Thank you for the work and for what it has meant to the libraries we serve.
