🦇 THIS TINY CRACK IS ENOUGH FOR A BAT TO GET INTO YOUR HOME.

At first glance, this probably doesn’t look like much.

But watch closely as I move the camera down. You can see bat guano inside the crack — and then you can barely make out the tiny opening the bats are using.

That’s the part most homeowners don’t realize: bats do NOT need a big hole to get into an attic.

An opening can look insignificant from the ground and still provide enough room for bats to squeeze into the structure.

This is why properly excluding bats requires a detailed attic AND roof inspection. Finding the obvious openings isn’t enough. We have to identify the small gaps and construction vulnerabilities that bats are actually using.

Sometimes the difference between a sealed home and a bat problem is a gap you can barely even see. 🔍🦇

🦇 THE ROOFER SAID THIS RIDGE VENT WAS AS TIGHT AS THEY COULD GET IT… WATCH MY HAND.

This homeowner didn’t want our ridge-vent guard installed, so they had their roofer remove the ridge vent and reinstall it as tight as possible to try to keep the bats out.

The roofer said this was as tight as they could get it.

Then I showed the homeowner this… my hand slides underneath it with ease. 😳

Now imagine a bat.

This is exactly why bat removal is NOT simply a matter of tightening down roofing materials or sealing a few gaps.

A proper bat exclusion requires identifying the active entry points, installing one-way doors so the bats can leave without getting back inside, and properly securing the remaining vulnerable areas.

Roofers specialize in roofing. Bat exclusion is pest-control work.

Even a brand-new or properly installed roof can have openings that work perfectly fine for ventilation — but also provide opportunities for bats.

If you have bats in your attic, hire a licensed pest-control company experienced in bat exclusion, not someone who simply says they can seal the roof.

🚨 This is why rolled ridge vents need to be guarded.

Take a close look at this ridge vent. An animal has already chewed into it, and where it’s damaged, I can easily slide my hand underneath.

These rolled-style ridge vents naturally want to return to their original shape. Over time, they can become wavy and lift away from the roof, creating openings animals can exploit.

If my hand can slide underneath it, imagine how easy it is for a bat, mouse, flying squirrel, or other wildlife to find its way into the attic.

A roof vent is supposed to ventilate your attic — not become an entrance.

🦇 YOUR RIDGE VENT CAN TELL YOU A LOT ABOUT WHAT’S LIVING IN YOUR ATTIC.

Look closely at this roof — you can actually see bat guano coming out from underneath the ridge vent. 😳

When I get closer, there’s even more guano packed underneath the plastic edge of the vent.

That doesn’t happen overnight.

Bats can use small openings around ridge vents to access an attic, and the evidence isn’t always obvious from the ground. Sometimes you have to know exactly where to look and what you’re looking for.

🚨 I can literally see the leaves on the trees OUTSIDE through this hole—from inside the attic.

This is one of those construction gaps most homeowners would never know exists.

When this home was built, the siding installers left space so the roofers could slide the shingles into place. The problem? That transition was never properly closed off.

Now there’s a direct opening from the outside straight into the attic—and if I can see outside this clearly, bats, squirrels, mice, birds and other animals can absolutely find it.

🛑 IF YOU CAN SEE DAYLIGHT FROM YOUR ATTIC, SOMETHING IS WRONG.

I’m inside this attic when I find an opening at the very top of the ridge.

Watch what happens when I put the camera up to it… you can literally see daylight coming through the roof. 😳

A flying squirrel chewed this opening out and created direct access into the attic.

This is why wildlife inspections need to include more than just walking around the outside of a home. The attic can tell an entirely different story.

Flying squirrels can take advantage of small vulnerable areas and enlarge them until they have a perfect entrance into your home.

There’s a small gap in the newly installed siding — and that’s exactly where the bats are entering the home.
