One job seeker set an alarm for 3 a.m. to be the first to apply. Another sent 1,300 applications in a month using AI. A third was interviewed from his car while waiting at a food pantry.

Economists call it a low-hire, low-fire market. Translation: The door is barely open, and working harder in front of a closed door is still standing in front of a closed door.

Did anyone ever really explain why your job was cut?
