A small delegation from the Nez Perce Tribe supported a Qu'nes (Condor) Ceremony on April 16th, at the World Center for Birds of Prey in Boise. Approximately 40-50 people gathered to hold ceremony over the new qu'nes hatchlings. The Tribe's Cultural Resource Director Nakia Williamson, spoke and sang to bless the qu'nes, the gathering, and the good work being done. Gordon Higheagle and Mary Jane Miles from the Elder's Circle, shared good words about their experiences at the Center. Eric Kash Kash, the Wildlife Division Director, spoke about the Tribe's efforts regarding reintroduction and funding recently secured. Valerie Tafoya and Julia Welch from the Tribe's Condor Team were present for the blessing, along with James Holt a member of the Wildlife staff.
As Nakia shared, the Nez Perce Tribe doesn't act for a single species but for ourselves and all beings. Qu'nes deserves a chance, as our unborn generations deserve a chance. The Tribe acts to protect clean air, clean water, and a clean Mother Earth. Tate Mason, the Center's Director, and his staff were gracious hosts for the tribal delegation.
