Over time, I have seen that most people struggle with their financial plans; either cobbling together a do-it-yourself approach, or alternatively getting “cookie cutter” service from larger advisory firms. I saw an opportunity to use my experience managing investments to help people take control of their financial futures. I believ

e there is a way to have the security and diverse product availability that comes with using the clearing platform of one of the largest financial firms on the planet (RBC) coupled with a tailored, local approach that gives you more control over your finances.

Delaying Social Security isn't just about increasing your own monthly benefit—it can also protect your spouse. If you're the higher-earning spouse, waiting until age 70 can significantly increase the survivor benefit your spouse may receive for the rest of their life. That decision can provide thousands of dollars in additional lifetime income if one spouse passes away first. Social Security is one of the few retirement decisions that can continue benefiting your family long after you're gone. Make sure you consider both your retirement and your spouse's future when deciding when to claim.

Being just $1 over a Medicare IRMAA threshold can be surprisingly expensive. That extra dollar of income can push you into a higher premium bracket, increasing your Medicare Part B and Part D costs by more than $2,000 per year for some couples. That's why managing taxable income in retirement is just as important as growing your investments. Smart tax planning can help you avoid unnecessary premium increases and keep more of your money where it belongs.

Investment management is only one part of retirement planning. A complete retirement plan should also coordinate taxes, income, Social Security, healthcare, and withdrawal strategy. Your portfolio matters, but so does how and when you use it. Retirement planning is about turning your assets into a reliable, tax-efficient income plan. A strong retirement plan should focus on what you can control. You cannot control the market, interest rates, or future returns. You can control your taxes, withdrawal strategy, savings, expenses, and how your accounts work together. Good planning is not about predicting the future—it is about being prepared for different outcomes. Click the link in bio to get your no-cost Retirement Readiness Score.

Saving in a 401(k) or IRA is a great move, but too much tax-deferred money can quietly turn into a future tax problem. The years after you retire, but before RMDs start, can be one of the best chances to move money into a Roth at lower tax rates. If you skip that window, the IRS may force larger withdrawals later whether you need the money or not. That can mean higher taxes, higher Medicare premiums, and less flexibility in retirement. The goal is not to avoid taxes forever — it’s to pay them strategically.

Taking too little risk in your retirement portfolio can feel safe, but it can actually create a different kind of danger. It’s like driving 10 mph on the highway. You may feel cautious and protected, but everyone else is moving much faster around you. Over time, inflation, taxes, and missed growth can put your retirement goals at risk. Sometimes, playing it too safe is the risk.

A peace deal with Iran could matter more than people think. If tensions cool down, oil prices could ease, gas and shipping costs could come down, and that can help take pressure off inflation. For retirement investors, lower inflation and lower rate pressure can create a much healthier environment for long-term portfolios.
