Made a special trip today to meet an icon of the sport and wish him good luck. What a fun day and what a great conversation we had.

It’s always, always about the people you share the road with.

B.j. Almberg a Race Across America finisher ( #672) and his family met us in Kingman, Arizona.

We’ve shared the road, the race but never a handshake.

In a race like this, support from a fellow ultra-racer is priceless.

So thank you BJ, you’ve made our day.

The Rotary Club of Ely presents a new event for White Pine County! Cyclist mark your calendar the inaugural Tour de Schell Gravel Race. On August 9 ride some of the best gravel routes in the west (also featured in the Gravel Adventure Field Guide). All proceeds go to support Rotary’s student scholarships program. Thank you, Frederick Partay! We love hearing the updates on our water project in Ghana. Pictured with President Sam and Rotarian BJ Almberg. If you recall, BJ did RAAM and raised funds with Rotary sponsoring him for helping Frederick bring clean water to the people of Ghana. This project is ongoing and the link to donate is in the comments.

THE PEOPLE OF GHANA THANK YOU! We were able to take 4 large suitcases of clothes and shoes donated by the local Ely community and the Rotary Club of Ely Nevada. It was so fun to see their excitement as Frederick Partey handed out the clothes.

A big thank you to the Rotary Club of Ely Nevada for managing the fundraiser and helping to raise over $33,000. It was an awesome experience to be there in person to witness the completion of the first of many wells. We are seeking an international grant with the remainder of the money raised, which requires a partnership with a rotary club in the country where the project is being proposed. Fortunately, we were able to attend a Rotary club meeting while in Ghana where we were welcomed with open arms. They were very appreciative and excited to partner with us in an effort to expand this project to supply fresh drinking water to even more families. Here are a few pictures of BJ and the other local rotary club members at a meeting held in Accra, Ghana.

This next video is the village chief taking his first drink from the well. To think that one of life’s most basic necessities, clean water, is something we never think twice about unless we run out of hot water during our shower.
It’s after midnight here so I will share lots more pictures tomorrow!

It has been the most incredible day visiting the village here in Ghana where the first of several fresh water wells has been drilled with the funds you all helped us raise during BJ’s Race Across America. In this first video Frederick is explaining where they would get their water before he first started this project over 10 years ago.
