The Japanese tea ceremony, Chado, the Way of Tea, is among the most studied examples of refined hospitality in the world.

I have studied it from the perspective of a butler, not a tea master. And what it has taught me applies directly to every interaction in private service, the preparation matters as much as the presentation. The guest's experience is shaped before they arrive.

In Chado, every movement is considered. The temperature of the water. The angle of the whisk. The choice of the bowl for this guest, on this day, in this season. There is no detail beneath attention.
