Why make the switch to toothpaste tablets?

01/28/2026

Just because something is everywhere doesn’t mean it’s good for you or the planet. Need proof? Take a peek at our landfills. An estimated 400 million toothpaste tubes are tossed in the trash every year in the United States. Yikes.

Our redesigned packaging is made from plants, so it’s 100% compostable even the new resealable “zipper”. The ink is all nontoxic, too. The packet is now flat-bottomed so it can sit proudly upright on your bathroom counter. It makes you wonder where Unpaste has been all your life.

The important thing is, now you’ve found us.

Our NEW FORMULA is even MORE like toothpaste.

It’s everything you know and love about the toothpaste experience–and still without the plastic tube, mess, and not-so-great-for-you ingredients.

We’re most proud of what’s on the inside, but our NEW PACKAGING deserves a special shout-out, too.

Thank you to for highlighting the issue of plastic waste that cannot be recycled, which is really a global problem.

At the holidays, we may be more likely to notice the excessively wasteful aspects of our culture, but it’s representative of what’s going on all year.

What are your best creative ideas for tackling plastic waste in 2023?
Please put them in the comments below. We need everyone’s contributions if we are to be successful at this challenge! 🌎

New comic in today about a very particular 2022 festive problem: what the hell do we do with our soft plastics this year, and who the devil is going to do something about it?!

“Colgate’s 9 Billion Toothpaste Tubes Defy Effort to Recycle Them” screams the headline on Bloomberg News. 😳

Despite all the money, time, and effort that Colgate has poured into trying to make their toothpaste tubes recyclable, there is a seemingly insurmountable hurdle to making widespread toothpaste tube recycling a reality—just because a product is technically recyclable does not mean that it can or will be recyclable in practice.

Unfortunately, the recycling technology and infrastructure currently in place in the U.S. is not up to the task.

Sustainable by design, Unpaste tooth tabs come in a compostable paper bag, or in bulk at your local refill shop. Recycling doesn’t even come into the picture.
