During Military Appreciation Month, we’re proud to recognize members of the Smart City Networks team whose military service helped shape their leadership and commitment to others.

The experiences gained through service continue to influence the way they approach teamwork, accountability, and supporting those around them every day.

This month, we honor:
• Jacob Huerta – United States Air Force
• Michael Brown – United States Navy
• Gamil Abd-Elmalek – Active Military Service
• Rob Cartagine – United States Army

Each shared personal reflections and stories from their time in service. Take a moment to read briefly about their experiences, lessons, and memories that continue to stay with them today.
We’ll also be sharing another Military Appreciation Month spotlight next week honoring family members and loved ones who have served.

Thank you for your service, sacrifice, and the experiences you continue to share with all of us.

Smart City Networks was excited to attend the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Vocational Scholarship Reception, celebrating students pursuing vocational and technical education opportunities across Texas.

Our own Kyoko Sarchet-Hicks and Chris Wharry attended the event on behalf of Smart City Networks, where they had the opportunity to meet scholarship recipients supported through Smart City’s $10,000 contribution toward the Rodeo’s educational and scholarship initiatives. Seeing the impact these programs have on students and their future career paths made the evening especially meaningful.

We are grateful for the opportunity to support an organization that continues to make such a lasting impact across Texas communities through education!

We’re always proud to hear when our teams help make the event experience a little easier, especially for programs making an impact on future generations.

Recently, the Smart City team at the Minneapolis Convention Center supported State History Day, a competition showcasing interdisciplinary research projects from students in grades 6–12. Following the event, we received this great feedback about General Manager Brian Clear:

“Brian is great to work with! I appreciate how fast and responsive he is and makes the process seamless!”

We’re grateful to play a role in helping support the experience behind the scenes. Great work, Brian and the entire Smart City team, on being in place in Minneapolis!

Last week, Smart City Networks was proud to once again support the PCMA Foundation Visionary Awards as an annual sponsor and service provider, helping contribute to an evening dedicated to recognizing leadership across the business events industry.

Representing Smart City Networks at the event were Dennis O’Gara, Chris Pendleton, Tim Wortman, and Necayla Lowery, who had the opportunity to connect with industry friends, partners, and leaders from across the events community. We were also honored to join several special guests, including our DCI partners Ron Watkins, Gabrielle Alfonso, and Brian Maynard, along with Renata Allen of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Rhonda Whyte of Events DC, and Chinyere Hubbard of the DC Chamber of Commerce.

Events like the Visionary Awards are a reminder of how strong this industry becomes through collaboration and shared investment in its future. Smart City Networks is proud to continue supporting the organizations and people helping move the industry forward.

Awesome Con brought 65,000 fans to Washington, DC for an action-packed weekend of gaming, comics, cosplay, celebrities, and pop culture at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Smart City Networks was proud to support the experience with wired and wireless services powering gaming hubs, sales offices, bookstores, registration, and celebrity photo opportunities throughout the event.

A special shoutout to our incredible DC team, led by Necayla Lowery, for helping keep everything connected behind the scenes during one of the city’s most high-energy events. We’re already looking forward to welcoming Awesome Con back to Events DC in April 2027!

The Smart City Networks team at the San Diego Convention Center continues to raise the bar!

Recently, several team members earned new industry and technology certifications, adding to the knowledge and experience that help keep one of the nation’s busiest convention centers running at a high level. Congratulations to Max Adler, Levi Sparkman, David Garcia, Jesse Ruediger, and Naomi Ogren on all their accomplishments!

These certifications represent a lot of hard work behind the scenes. Long hours of studying, preparation, and a genuine commitment to learning more about the technology that powers today’s events.

It also speaks to the culture the San Diego team has built under the leadership of Matt Chavez and Mike Rose. Growth is encouraged, teammates support each other, and the focus is always on being ready for whatever an event or venue may need.

We’re proud to see the San Diego team continue investing in themselves and strengthening the service we provide to our clients and partners every day.

Last week at the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) Super Regional in Baltimore, Smart City Networks was proud to be part of the conversation shaping our industry.

As an event sponsor, we were excited to support a gathering built around collaboration and shared insight across venue professionals. Even more meaningful, our own Dennis O’Gara played a key role behind the scenes, contributing to both the finance and session planning committees. He attended the event with Chris Pendleton, who spent time connecting with industry peers, strengthening relationships, and building new opportunities for collaboration across the venue community.

Opportunities like this reflect the value of having a seat at the table. Being actively involved allows us to contribute perspective, share expertise, and help move the industry forward alongside our partners.

We’re grateful to be part of a community that continues to push for smarter, more connected venues.

Last week, our managers and leaders from across the country came together at our corporate office for a week dedicated to learning and growth.

Bringing together leaders from so many of our local teams creates something bigger than just training. It strengthens alignment, builds connections, and reinforces the standard of service we deliver across every venue.

We’re proud to invest in opportunities like this that bring our teams together, and even more excited to see the impact as these leaders return to their venues with new ideas and a shared commitment to getting better every day.
