Starting tomorrow (Wednesday Sep 2nd), I’ll be at the shop a couple times a week to blackbook with you, answer questions, exchange stories. We’re testing the waters to see how this schedule works, but we plan on making it an ongoing thing.

Stretching throwies vertically adds a bit of style I hadn’t really considered when I was younger. Maybe I just needed a little change after doing this throwie for so many years. It feels more stylish than it used to.

I’m biased with this one, but this Devastator Machine Metal Body really is my favorite marker. The Uni Paint PX30 is—in my opinion—the best overall graff marker out there, but I wanted one that was full and didn’t need shaking or constant juicing when you haven’t used it for a while.

Teaming up with Devastator on this, they made an exclusive ink for the Devastator Machine line that really brings this thing home. It’s the same body as a PX30, with 30ml of ink, not rattle noise and is always ready to go.

The nib stays juicy even after it’s been sitting. It’s in my bag everywhere I go.

This video is mainly about yard etiquette and most doesn’t apply to street graffiti. I did a post talking about how we didn’t used to buff our spots at yards much in the 90s. We just rocked on top of other graffiti.

We had some guidelines in place so we were mostly operating on the same understanding. If the spot we chose has a bunch of tags, a pieced that was dissed, partially covered up, it was fair game to paint there.

Some comments mentioned how it was disrespectful to leave someone’s s**t hanging out. While that’s true leaving someone’s clean piece hanging out from behind yours, most people didn’t care if part of their throwie or tags were showing from behind your piece.

It was just how we operated. Some people will always get pi**ed not matter what you do, but this was the understanding we had back then.

I was looking through the Vice colors that this color scheme popped out.
Atmos Violet Outline (under the lighting it looked blue. Should have read the can)
Tony Orange Fill
Travis Yellow Highlight
Durango Blue Border
I used the Vice Cap for the outline and cut in the fill with a needle cap. Overall, I’m feeling the colors together.

I shot this photo of Push and Brace on the way to the spot back around 1995. Shout out to the people still rocking like this. As you get older and build a different life, this kind of thing may move further down on the list of priorities.

Graff will always be there, but sometimes you build a life that means you can’t get a call in the morning that people are meeting up and you can just go. If you’re young and living this life, do your best to lock as much as you can into memory.

Take photos, have conversations, try new s**t. The memories—and hopefully photos—will be all that’s left of these days you’re in. And for the older heads, you’ll look back on the days you’re in right now as the good old days too.

Keep building those memories.

Something nice about the Magic Ink markers being oil based is you can do your outline first with a water based pen or marker and do your outline on top of it. Since oil and water doesn’t mix, the Magic Ink won’t smear the outline.

Most flicks I look at I barely remember painting them. This one I remember pretty well. A bunch of us MSKs were meeting at motor to paint and it was also the same day we were supposed to pick up the Eyelid tour van. We found this old Dodge Ram for sale that was used by the fire department to transport people around.

Although it was old, it had super low miles and was really cheap. I didn’t want to miss either opportunity, so only had about an hour to paint before the band came to the yard to pick me up.

This was one of those paint sessions that flowed quickly and easily. I got it done in 45 minutes. With no cell phones, I had no way of knowing the band was running a couple hours late so I ended up hanging around the yard waiting for them.

Glad I didn’t know. The rushed nature of the session produced some results I liked. No thinking, just get it done. I remember telling Ekipse that I only spend 45 minutes on this and he told me “you should do that more often”. I’ll have to revisit this color combo sometime.
